You know there are other coaches that know just as much about football as he does so what do you think it is that makes him a better football coach than others and what mamkes his players respond to him so well?

He's a damn good coach. Pays close attention to details. Demands agressive play.

His attitude.
He's damn serious and he has a proven track record.
It's that simple.

scoop, he has many qualities that make him damn good. no one around him is allowed to fail and they pay for it if they do. i don't want to bust your bubble, but micro managers like coach saban generally don't stay at one place very long because theur shite gets old. don't get me wrong, i'm not saying he's gonna leave. it's possible, at his age, he decides to stay longer than normal. he isolates every player and pushes them to be the best. sounds good, but his methods of intimidation wear thin and players will eventually rebel and lay down on him. happens in business, too. enjoy the success while he's there. like i say, i may be wrong and i hope i am. i hope i am because i love to go up against guys like that. i want to beat 'em bad. something like going after the best.

I hear what your saying but Bryant was the same way and it worked for him for years. Also, it was always rumored that Bryant mellowed as he got older. Maybe Saban will begin to chill in a few years.

He has a good defensive scheme for the college game and runs it effectively. Most head coaches give too much power to their coordinators, but nick is always hands on

That dude's micromanaging skills are top of the line!
Plus he knows that strong, physical football teams win. Your players are huge compared to most teams even in the sec, and I definitely noticed at the seccg, how nick saban used that and was able to bully florida.
As much as it pains me to say this, but bring that trophy back to this conference!

Dedication/commitment
The man is totally focused on preparing his team. He lives his commitment (he's disciplined) and demands it from his assistants and players. He's a brilliant defensive mind and doesn't allow his offense to beat his team with mistakes. In other words he's conservative on offense except when he knows he has to be aggressive like in the Florida game. He knows his opponents inside and out and tunes his defense and offense to match his opponents strengths and weaknesses. In other words he's about as close to the perfect coach as you will find.

he is an expert at evaluating talent,he recruits based on his needsat the time, doesn't get too many players where he has to then decide how to use them...
it is like getting pieces and just placing them in his puzzle

Relentless recruiter and an intimdator of the kids playing for him.
I heard this story from a Mich St grad and believe it is true. In the early 80's while on staff at Mich St (he would come back later as HC) he was recruiting Andre Rison. Rison was being raised by his grandmother. The gran mother started drinking on Christmas Eve and called Nick to come drink with her. Nick left his family and returned at 3am after drinking with Andre's grandmother sealing the deal for Andre to go to Mich St.
That is dedication you don't see every day.

This story is true. Coach Saban himself told it to the press. He missed his mother-in-law's Christmas party because of it.
Here is Coach Saban telling it.....
"This was back in the Michigan State days when I was an assistant. Rules were a little bit different then. Nobody really knew this, and I didn't really know it. In fact, my good friend who's the governor of West Virginia now who you guys like to talk to is the guy who told me this. Alberta Brown was someone who had a business in the coal mining town where I grew up. Everybody knew Alberta Brown when I was a kid, and that was Andre Rison's grandmother and she lived in Fairmont, West Virginia.
"Of course, Andre Rison lived with his mother in Flint (Mich.). We were recruiting him, and It wasn't going great for Michigan State. It was kind of Wisconsin and Michigan and Michigan State. We weren't in a bowl game, so we had time to go home for Christmas. I called Alberta Brown and said I wanted to stop over and see her on Christmas Eve, because we weren't getting there until Christmas Eve and Terry's mother had Christmas Eve at her house at night with all the family, and my mother had it on Christmas morning. That was kind of how we did it.
"So I get over to Alberta Brown's and we had a drink or two and it lasted until two or three in the morning. I missed my mother-in-law's Christmas party, which she never forgave me for. Terry never (did) either. But we got Andre Rison, and we got a lot of good information on what we needed to do to get him."

He reminds me of some of the submarine commanders I served under and most military leaders. He is very meticulous, demands discipline and focus from everyone involved in the program. Attention to detail is something the military stresses and so does he. He is obviously a great recruiter too but the base of his personality is why does so well.

Saban has already started to mellow. LSU fans notice that he seems happier here than he did there. He smiles more.... has fun with the players more.
He's learned when to NOT scream and degrade someone.
He's a hell of a coach. I'm an old guy and I consider him right there with Bryant as far as talent. I don't think he'll ever have the "aura" or "legend" that Bryant had, but he's probably a better tactition, a better General. (don't hurt me, Bama fans... it's true)

He is the best DB coach in college football for one. He keeps his team disciplined. He recruits well. He hires good assistants.
