I don't think they'll be a below .500 team anytime soon, but I don't think they'll legitimately contend for the West in the next two or three years either. They'll add some great talent, but Alabama and LSU are insanely deep, and not slowing down in adding to it.

Yeah we are back to mediocrity for now, 1 or 2 years and we can compete again.

If there is one thing an Ole Miss fan knows, it is mediocrity.

Mediocrity is really stretching it. Maybe they'll be mediocre next year - if they keep improving.

they handed Ole Miss one of Nutt's most lopsided losses in several years

I would like to know what your definition of the word is. If 7 wins and a bowl game isn't mediocre I don't know what is. 9 wins is good in my opinion. Auburn will improve and put ourselves over the hump in the next year or two. We wont be losing games like UK and with improvement we will stay competitive with the better teams.

For what it's worth, Alabama defeated Ole Miss by a larger margin.

Are you sure that you're not just a "flash in the pan"? Here today and gone tomorrow?

Auburn is stuck right now in my opinion. They are going to have several talented skill position players at receivers and tailback. But overall their talent level has not really increased even with this current recruiting class.
Also coaches who have success in their second year usually win with the previous coaches players. I just do not see the talent in Auburn for them to turn the corner next year.
In my opinion a coach who knows what they are doing first and foremost recruits line players to their program. They are the corner stone of a great team. But they can also take a while to develop. Auburn may be able to put together several good offensive line players for the next couple years, but I do not see how they can have any depth.

I think it is easiest to gauge based on conference record.
6-8 wins = great
5-7 wins = good
4= average
2-3 = below average
0-1= Ole Miss after this senior class graduates

Auburn has had 2 and 3 sec wins in the past two years. If they beat Alabama it will be 4 this year. Unless they make a huge jump next year they are definitely sinking. But maybe Coach Chizik will get it turned around.

I'm just happy that we've had Auburn's number for 3 years running. At least we can still say that about somebody.
