blatantly missed the obvious completion from McElroy to Brad Smelley during Alabama's first drive of the game. The CBS replay confirmed it. The play was reviewed, only to find out that the booth had a "power glitch".

I'm pissed. We clearly would have driven deep into LSU territory and at least gotten a field goal, but that opportunity was taken away by the referee on the LSU sideline.

Too bad Smelley dropped the ball.

I hear ya. Perhaps we can get Big 10 or PAC 10 refs for future LSU-Alabama games. What do you think?

Need to donate more money to the University of Alabama athletic department to purchase equipment that works properly. But, would not matter anyway, as the replay official could not view the screen properly anyway, right?

correcct Bryant. Smelley had possession before he went out of bounds and right after he hit the ground, Smelley flipped the ball. It would have been ruled a completion had the replay system been operating.

Yes, maybe they would have been able to review the atrocious spot LSU had on their first drive as well, but they can't get the damn equipment to work.

Funny, but you are both wrong. Smelley had control of the football with one foot in. As he came down, he held a firm grip on the ball in his left hand. Then, as he fell out of bounds and his arm landed on the ground, the ball came out.

By rule, that's a catch.

Boom that, sucker.

It was a catch. I was listening to it on the radio for the first few minutes of the game and even Jim Hawthorne and Jordy and that other guy on LSU Radio Network all agreed that it was a catch.

was he the same guy that didn't give Jefferson his obvious forward progress on LSU's first drive, that would've been a first down, or the same ref that gave you an extra yard on the running into the punter penalty, or perhaps the same ref that didn't see the obvious block in the back on Jones' TD, or the obvious face mask of the LSU olineman near the end of the game, or perhaps the guy who decided to charge LSU w/ the time out when both Saban and Miles were signalling for timeout at the same time??

Well...I admit that I am not 100% sure in college about that being a catch, but I am 100% sure it is not a catch in the NFL, and I am not refering to one foot vs. two feet.

In the Saints game that catch that Peyton challenged on Colston's potential TD was an example of it. The receiver has to have control through falling to the ground.

Anyone know if that is also the case in college?

Maybe if your quarterback wasn't so scared of being hit, you'd have gotten a more favorable spot. He backed up right before he was hit, instead of the typical "lowered shoulder" approach... especially that close to the chains. Personally, I thought the spot was about right.

There's a word to describe quarterbacks like him, but it's usually reserved to describe a popular feature of the female anatomy.

If you wanna go that route the refs gave JJ a terrible spot on our opening drive after that 3rd down scramble..
