With all of the new coaches and staffs around the SEC... with all of the new recruiting tactics like the ground breaking "Tiger Prowl"... with last year's records with each team... LSU not nearly reaching a win record they would have hoped for. Bama falling on our face in the Sugar bowl. Auburn just plain sucking... Ole Miss doing well with Florida, but having more pressure than ever for an Ole Miss team... MSU sucking horribly last year but with a new hopeful head coach... let's see, what else haven't I covered? Florida whipping arse, but having a lot of extra-curricular activities with the police. UGA's defense being woeful last year... Kentucky starting strong and ending crappy... HERE IS WHAT I ASK of the SECRanters...

Is YOUR team a REAL team? What inner issues are going on at each school? I can only pay enough attention to know a little bit of what feels like is going on at Bama... obviously I don't have enough time to really spend getting to pick up vibes on other teams "Team" mentality.

Who has the best team attitude? Which of the SEC teams can over-come adversity better than others? Which team in the SEC has players in it that actually care about their team-mates?

Likewise, which teams have issues?

Florida. We only had 2 players get in trouble. The charges on Jenkins were dropped because he was defending himself and Doe just needed car insurance.

I would say a team other than mine would be...Vandy.

Give it about 6-7 weeks and you'll get the answers.

Right now, asking those kinds of questions is like a bunch of new moms sitting around debating which of their babies has the best personality.

sure, seniors leaving and freshman coming changes the scenery a little bit... but the overall team-ness should be created and tilled by the coach. so i feel like we'd have a good idea of who the new seniors are and what sort of leadership they'll trickle down the ladder... and what sort of bunch the freshmen are and if they're receptive TO that leadership.

Our guy have had the toughest offseason ever. Tebow and Spikes had them working almost non-stop and had them watch the OM game everyday over the summer so they know they can't ever slack off.

are you saying that UF and Vandy are the two schools in the SEC that don't have players that get in trouble? you aren't even right about vandy. les miles runs a tight ship (as evidenced by the numbers of guys tossed off the team ), but all HC's have players get in trouble. Some more than others due to recruiting practices and lack of discipline, but you can't legislate good behavior; ie boys will be boys.

i will be very interested to see how our team plays this year after last year's end. that's what got me to wanting to start this thread. i feel like good coaching makes a team feel like a single unit, each part playing a vital role. and as an Alabama fan, i'm as excited as i am nervous about this year because for all of my adult life, we normally would NOT respond well to adversity.

i guess i'm sort of trying to prod people for their opinions about their respective teams' character and togetherness. do they lift eachother when they're down? do they give credit to their team-mates when they themselves have done well? and if so, how much credit goes to the coach for instilling it into them?

sounds like the pros. in college, there is no real money to be earned for winning, or money lost if you lose. and STILL somehow, some college teams rely SOLELY on their team-mate's talent to get them through.

some teams have bad attitudes and bad vibes all OVER their squads even when they're winning. some teams are a lot more positive than others.

EVERY team has players get in trouble. It's how it is dealth that shows the true mettle. I like how Miles handles things like that.

of course. no doubt. and of course the successful teams are scrutinized because they ARE successful. but this thread is only about what teams have a solid team mentality foundation. i wasn't tryin to knock UF for that. it was just the first thing that came to mind. i probably should have mentioned the matter of Meyer potentially at some point leaving for another school and how the team copes with that feeling.

Meyer isn't going anywhere, the boss(shelley Meyer) loves Gville and Meyer likes it too. I think our team leadership is awesome too. Every team has good leaders, but who would want to get on the bad side of brandon Spikes or Tim Tebow?

yo gatorprincess, i'm not saying he WILL go anywhere. this thread isn't about that. this thread is about how good a team you have, and how they face things like that. but btw, thanks for helping me keep the topic afloat. hopefully we get a few more people chiming in that can give some good info on other teams.

I think Bama is STILL in a transitional phase as far as how we define ourselves as a team for years to come. we lost a major bowl game after a killer season. will the guys let that loss define us when the big games are on the line? will they come back and kick butt? i'm nervous to find out.

all those freshman that got to play last year got totally USED to winning. the last two losses were weird to them. that's awesome. i hope we keep smashing people and they just plain hate losing because it's not how they SEE themselves.

I see what you are saying. I am interested to see Florida w/o Tebow and Spikes. We lose great senior leadership and possibly some great JR leadership in the pouncey twins etc. I am nervous about next year. brantley is good, but quiet like Chris Leak.

true. assuming Meyer DOES stay next year, it would be -very- interesting to see how well Florida does. that definitely is more along the lines of what i mean. i think THEN we'd get a refresher on how good a coach Meyer really is if next year's team does well.

I say we lose 2 games next year, no more than 3. The Meyer family really loves it in Gville so I don't see him leaving. Then again I never thought Spurrier would either. Though with Spurrier he and Foley disagreed about how to handle Dockett Gate because Spurrier wouldn't apologize to FSU. Also, The Gator fans were brutal because losing 2 games was bad. though hopefully most ppl remember the Zook years and be patient with our young team in 2010.

I believe LSU is a TEAM. Les Miles exudes good character. He does not tolerate people who do not want to make the school and the team better. I feel that this will only get better with recruiting players like Russel Shepard.
