Jevan Snead, Greg McElroy, and Jonathan Crompton were among about 25 college QB's that attended the Manning's Passing Academy in Thibedeaux, La as camp councelors.

There is a friendly passing competition each year with the college QB's. McElroy finished 2nd in the competition behind TAMU's Jerrod Johnson. QB's in the passing competition also included Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, Tyrod Taylor, and others.

Doing better than these guys in passing drills doesn't really mean it will transition onto the field this season, but it is definately doesn't hurt and is incouraging words for Bama fans concerned with the QB change.

As like a lot of Bama fans, I'm more concerned with the offensive line than I am McElroy.

I think this only solidifies Bama's expectation
to finish behind the Aggies in this year's final polls ! Good point !

I hope McElroy builds up the expectations even higher before the season starts and subsequently fails under pressure.

Lots of Bammers (not necessarily you RE) have already anointed him as an upgrade to JPW, might as well crown him as one of the best QBs in the nation as well.

Very possible.

You don't have to be the best qb in the nation to be better than jpw. Did you watch jp last season?
Was it his whopping 9touchdown passes that kept you in awe?

Although lots of us feel the same, none of us actually know. Personally, I too think that McElroy will be better stats-wise this season and could be a very good QB next season.

JPW didn't do anything special the time he was here. He does have all of the records (only because he stayed healthy and Brodie didn't) but nothing he did here really POPS out at you besides some of the boneheaded things that he let happen like fumbles and picks to lose games. He also wasn't all that acurate and couldn't throw the deep ball to save his life.

Of course it's just coachspeak, but the word is that McElroy's deep ball is much more acurate as are the rest of his throws. Now of course, the "word" isn't going to be that he's terrible and we're in trouble--it's going to be positive...so that's what you're going to hear from us.

I will say that I think that since JPW was a senior, and learning under an established QB coach, that he was named the starter because the gameplan was to run the ball, control the clock, and win with defense--and limit JPW's mistakes. JPW never did anything huge, he just won ball games...and didn't make mistakes.

We have been hearing from LSU fans that Saban is terrible with dealing with a QB controversy...I'd say that he handled last season well. The senior played, didn't make mistakes, and won the games. It would have been a bad coaching move on Saban's part to yank JPW and install McElroy for no reason.

Does any of this make sense?

I'm one of those that thinks that McElroy is a better QB, it's just the line that i'm worried about...If Carpenter can step in and be a good LT, I think that we will have a good offensive year.

IMO, the year hinges on him more than anyone else.
