Confused about UT fans attitude toward the Kiffen hire...

I spoke with a UT fan while out of town last week. He could not stop talking about how much better UT is going to be because of Kiffen. Kiffen this and Kiffen that. He said the UT fan base has never been so energized.
What has Kiffen done to warrant this type of praise? How did a failed stint in the NFL legitimize this guy as serious coaching candidate?
The only thing this guy has going for him is the unknown.

I'm convinced that Most Vol fans think MONTE Kiffin is their Head Coach.

UT fans are probably just happy to have new/fresh blood in the program.....similar to AU fans. After years of Fulmer, they probably feel it was time for a change.

Exactly, its nice to have a coach dishing it out then standing around and taking it. we all silently hope he can back his mouth up like Spurrier did.

not to flame but do ya'll ever want him to just stfu? i understand its a new era up there but he hasn't even fielded a team yet. i have no clue what he is going to do.

Except Spurrier had already accomplished things before he ever shot his mouth off, unlike Kitten.

sometimes, but I wanted Spurrier to shove it repeatedly. Basically we are going to see if he can put his team where his mouth is.

i wanted spurrier to choke on his visor myself but he backed up what he said. nowadays he is alot more subdued to say the least in his quotes. i just think kiffen needs to quit being a blow hard UNTIL he proves it on field.
i might add i hope he gets his arse handed to him every week

He's definitely putting his team where his mouth is, and they're the ones who are going to pay for it when the season starts.

It's a team whose fan base has been stuck with mediocrity the past several seasons. No matter what happened, we knew that with Fulmer we would win about 8 games and go to a second rate bowl. New blood into the program will automatically spark excitement.
As you said, nobody knows what is going to happen and the future is unknown. However, we can grade Kiffin on the two things he has done so far: Establishing a staff and a recruiting class. His staff automatically brought excitement because of the big names and the quality. They are the best recruiting staff in the country. Can they coach? Only time will tell.
As far as recruiting, he brought in a top 10 class in the country as well as the #1 overall player in the country in just 3 months. This is on top telling top name recruits to look elsewhere (Tajh Boyd). The fact that they could swing Bryce Brown into coming when he had never previously considered Tennessee warrants some excitement.
We will see how it works out for him. I am happy with the staff and our recruiting class, but the rest is unknown. He has said some dumb things that I am sure he regrets, but hopefully he will learn to keep his mouth shut about certain things. Once he does that, I will be glad to have a coach that doesn't back down like Fulmer. Only time will tell...

Has anyone else noticed how Fulmer has suddenly gone from being a class act to a wussy.
He had nothing to back down from IMO. He did things the right way. Perhaps a change was due but I don't think accusing the previous coach of backing down does a thing except justify the TN fans new found love for a loud mouthed cocky done nothing newbie.
He is a Pac 10 softee that came to the rough and tumble SEC and thought he would take a chance on being brash. I think this is going to backfire. I could be wrong but it would be the first time.
As for Bryce Brown, why the hell do you think he and his street agent picked TN after never considering them until the last minute...
Things that make you call B$. Maybe it was the yew toob vid of shirtless wildboyz???? I don't know for sure but I think it was $omething different.

Your coach seemed to have no problem rubbing that class acts face in the dirt.
With Kiffin at least you can feel better about yourselves.

Do you mean by beating his team soundly?
I think Coach Meyer actually respected Fulmer. At least I never heard him say anything negative about him.
Beating TN always feels good. I think most of the SEC feels this way and even moreso now.
Look, if Kiffin turns out to be the next best thing to shrimp and grits then good on ya'. I just don't think he was worth the chance. You guys deserve a coach with a winning history and a little maturity at least. That's just my opinion though.

Fulmer still is a class act, but people have been calling for his firing for quite some time. A change had to be made, and it ended up being Kiffin. We will see how it turns out.
Oh and claim that we paid Bryce Brown as much as you want, but he came here because Kiffin and Co are marketing us as a place where you can play instantly. He can come into the SEC and start and be gone in 3 years, which is precisely why he came.

That's laughable.

If it's laughable then show me some negative quotes. I haven't heard anything like that.
If you have dinner with Coach Meyer regularly and he tells you this kind of stuff then I understand if you can't cousin kiss and tell.

He may respect Fulmer as a man, but as a coach....you know how those games have gone.

Fair enough. I now believe that there was no funny business going on at all. It was probably that most other schools didn't want to deal with the drama and the street agent. Nothing to see here. Move along.
I'm kidding of course. There is no way Kiffin is stupid enough to pay recruits. I refuse to believe that.

You're right, Meyers is such a classy guy he lets his players run their mouth for him.
