If we went by private and parochial schools, Louisiana would rank in the top 5% of the nation.
I doubt it unless you're comparing them to public school of other states.

Also, if you took away many of the Orleans Parish public schools, Louisiana would be much higher in this thread's poll. The rest of the state gets a bad rap for one parish.
Yeah, If Mississippi didn't have the Delta...

Arkansas would be much lower if it were not for Northwest Arkansas.
I love irritating my fellow AR fans.

As someone who has spent my entire life west of Little Rock, I prefer to say that Arkansas would be higher if not for eastern Arkansas.
Arkansas does pretty well. Looks like 80.5% of our kids graduate high school.
Nawt bawd.

Desoto County accepts your thanks. We'll continue to prop up the state of Mississippi as long as possible.

Notice how the last two are perfectly in line with the most dangerous states also. Nevad 1 and LA 2. lol.

I feel pretty safe in saying that Georgia and Louisiana would go up if you took out Atlanta, Macon, Baton Rouge and NO.
the only reason why i would disagree with this is because of some of the places in Southeast and Southwest Georgia. Some of those places are ridiculously poor and many kids have to drop out to go to work. However, there are also those in this area that drop out because they are so apathetic.

In Montgomery County, Alabama, the graduation rate is like 48%.
Which is ridiculous, I literally slept for 3 years and graduated with a C avg. All you have to do is show up. And that was almost 15 years ago. I'm sure the standards are much lower now. You could probably leave a crash test dummy in your desk and manage to graduate.

When does Alabama's next t-shirt come out?

Unfortunately, the data is a little misleading. The graduation rate has changed after the state standards for a "diploma" were changed. Prior to last year, if you had not passed the Graduation Exit Exam, you received a certificate of attendance or completion, not a diploma. Now, if you pass 3 out of the 5 sections of the GEE, you get a Diploma. Hence, graduation rates are up.
