Good for them. OU has a new state of the art field/complex but with softball championship in OKC that would be too much in one metro for fans to handle. So this one makes sense in that context.

I've been to that stadium. It is nice. Easy to get to from the interstate.
Where's the softball tournament now?

The softball tournament has been rotating through SEC member venues

Calling a softball conference tournament a playoff is really cringe

Last baseball season there was a mid-week game between Auburn and UTM at that stadium, CUSA moved their basketball tournament to Huntsville, and I think either Alabama or Auburn recently played an early season basketball game there too.

I have to go there for work occasionally. It is really cool how they made the old stove factory and school into entertainment/social venues. Madison seems like subdivision/HOA hell though.

Madison does seem very uppity. I guess they think they are the reason why Huntsville is growing.
I just appreciate the commish understanding Alabamaians dont want to travel so just keep it down home cuz.

Useless shite only I think of for $100 Alex.
IIRC, softball infields are all dirt. Obviously, a minor league baseball park has a grass infield. The SEC softball tournament will be held during the minor league baseball season. Are they going to rip out the infield grass for softball and then reinstall it for Trash Panda games? I can't think the team would be too happy with that.
Of course, it could be a turf field and all this musing above is irrelevant.

Of course, the stadium could switch to turf before the 2027 season. They're the AA team for the Angels, and Angel Stadium has some extremely nice grass. Not sure why they'd switch unless it was just a cost saving move. Maybe that is a condition of the tournament moving to that stadium???

Being in the SEC with no affiliation to baseball/softball or other southern collegiate spring sports is cringe.

You make great points. I think all are dirt infields. Also shows how good softball infielders have to be since ball can take many directions hitting dirt vs turf.
No idea what they’ll do. And most likely they paid to host and banking on revenue ti recoup. Surprised they didn’t check with OKC to use those fields. Holds over 10k and has great parking and infrastructure.
Its possible since its so close to championships the city or venue didn’t want to have games so close together. Would have given SEC teams practice time on same fields as championships, which woulda been great experience.

Also, if you ever get bored, that exit ramp is just begging to be jumped, à la Smokey and the Bandit.

It is strange seeing how fricking empty it is for those games.

From AL.com
The city will utilize a professional changeover service to convert the stadium from a baseball diamond to a softball configuration annually. This includes installing a removable outfield fence.

But will they redo infield and make it dirt?
Posted on 4/17/26 at 10:58 pm to OU Guy
Yes it has already been done for a tournament earlier this year. All dirt infield, all grass outfield. It appears they also moved home plate back about 10-15 feet closer to the backstop. Dimensions will be very similar if not the same to pretty much anywhere else they play.
