He could recruit but not win.
Players are using Kentucky for the name.
Similar to how players used bama in sabans last years.
They are there for money dont care about winning

Kentucky was sort of coming into the tourney on fumes, having lost five of their last seven regular-season games.
Iowa State was going to be a tough out anyway, and I thought they had a better shot with the Joshua Jefferson injury, but man that second half just turned quickly.

Loss to Evansville
Loss to St. Peters
Loss to Oakland
Poor regular season turned to poor sec tourney to poor ncaa tourney for the team
Didn't make it past the second round since before covid
Attacked the football program during the basketball team's period of historic suckage
And my personal favorite, rooting for another school when we missed the tournament
At least budget calipari is cheaper and doesn't root for bama. Pope > Cal for that reason alone

Kelsey at Louisville sucks as well.
ETA: Kentucky has 1 sweet 16 appearance in 7 years. Guess who was at the helm without the Sweet 16?

Ok, so that’s idiotic. Gonna ride or die with pope?

He gets a year based on the S16 his first year and the injuries this year to prove whether he's the guy. That seems fair. And it puts it out of Barnhart's reach for the next HC.
How long y'all going to give Kelsey?

Kentucky nagged & nit picked Cal to death under a microscope. He lost the joy, bad luck & poor results showed leading to more nagging, leading to him leaving

That's one hell of a streak of "bad luck" to lose to St. Peter's, Oakland, and not make it out of the 1st weekend for 5 years running.

Pope won’t be allowed to go five years with only one tournament win. Pope doesn’t have a lifetime contract.
Be fair Belle. He didn’t make the Tournament in 2021. Went 9-16. BCG went to the NIT and got fired. Mr CONTRACT FOR LIFE didn’t even make the NIT. As bad as this year was it was far better than 2021.
Some of these same bastards hating on Cal in those years are asking why we are glad he left.

I feel you got to give Pope at least another year to see what he can do. The concerning thing is, I'm hearing from Kentucky sports writers that Pope might have a tough go with NIL next year, and that's not a good thing. Pope dealt with a lot of injuries, as most teams do during the year, so verdict is out on how well he will do in the future. As far as Cal goes, it was a win win for both programs I feel. Cal got a fresh start, and so did Kentucky.

Plus they have a good kicker. He kicked it up into the stands. Never have seen that before without a Technical. So Vols, you have to account for that..

Sometimes a coach just hits his sell by date at a school and I think Cal hit his at Kentucky. Both sides were happy to cut ties.
This year I think Kentucky just ran out of gas. Too many injuries, a rough end to the season, and it just wore them down. That happens, not everyone rolls into the Big Dance on a hot streak.
As for Pope the rumors about the NIL being small is concerning. Just in the SEC other schools are opening up the purse strings for basketball. You don't want to be the Sisters of the Poor in the modern NIL.
Kentucky will be fine in the long run, they're Kentucky after all.
