I watched last night’s episode of Hey Coach with Oats. They usually have a player join them as well and I was a bit shocked to see the player they chose was Sherrell

In the Holloway thread yesterday there was some talk that Sherrell might be transferring after the year.

Obviously he still could, but if you were set on transferring why would you do the radio show? And if you’re Oats and you could’ve had Mallette, Allen, Wrightsell, or really any of the players join you I wouldn’t think that you’d pick someone on their way out. He also talked about being locked in to a team mindset going into the tournament.

I dunno. Could all be nothing. Just thought it was interesting on the heels of the smoke from yesterday.

Sherrell will be a critical piece to next year's team and the trajectory of his development suggests he could be an all-conference player next year. I think we will do what it takes to retain him absent an offer we just can't even come close to matching.

We probably have additional funds opened up that would have otherwise been allocated to Holloway.

I wouldn't read too much into it.

Sometimes players do something like this and then leave shortly thereafter anyway.

Coaches too. If memory serves, Tosh Lupoi spoke to us about how excited he was for the upcoming January contact period and immediately split to go to Cleveland before it even started (he had to have known).

As cold as it sounds, sometimes it's just who's available on the schedule to speak. Or it might just be a player who needs media practice. It's a business.

I think Sherrell has improved a lot. Hasn't been the case under Oats that a big man has improved that much. You see the guards get a lot better, but not the big men. Sherrell is the exception. I would not want to see him leave.

Word I saw is that it would take a massive offer to get Sherrill to play for any college next year. His plan seems to be to go into the draft.

Sherrell isnt ready for the NBA. Doesnt rebound well enough or score consistently enough.

He would get bullied any real rebounder

I haven’t seen him mocked anywhere near the 1st round. Earlier in the year I thought he was going to play his way into being drafted but that peaked a bit.

It sounds like he's getting some terrible advice. I could honestly see him transfer, but to enter the draft would be ridiculous. He's waaaay too raw and inexperienced for NBA scouts to seriously consider drafting him..
He played against better big men on a regular basis this year. How could anyone not realize that. He needs a TON of work, and instruction from coaches that know how to play "in the paint".

PS- He doesn't even set a descent pick or screen.

Testing the draft waters would be a smart move, but actually staying in would be a terrible idea. If he can make a jump next like he did this year he might have a chance. He's almost tripled his minutes and increased his FG % while increasing his points about the same as his playing time. His FT % went from 46% to 70%. He had 7 blocks all last year but has had 8 or more multiple times this year.

He could be 1st team All SEC if he got a little better at finishing around the rim and rebounding. He would be one of the centerpieces to next year's team. I could see him averaging 16/10 next year and playing himself into the draft.

That’s an argument FOR drafting him lmao. NBA loves raw prospects.

Sherrell has indeed gotten better, but he still has MUCH room to grow.

They need to start feeding the lad gunpowder or something. He's not mean enough for being 6'11 and 250+ lbs.
