Has to be a cash grab and a chance to milk the fans for more home game tickets.

pre-nil used to be to get the team more games together but this roster is gonna turn over big time. Maybe the players and coaches have bonuses for post-season appearances? Maybe to add to the treasure chest for nil acquistions?

They did refuse a bowl bid. Maybe they are desperate

But can it really be that much?

Sure doesn’t seem like it.

Could it really be due to a players’ vote? They’re paid a lot of money to play and underperformed miserably. Do companies reward employees who don’t achieve their goals with extra paid vacations?

Steven Pearl would get a bonus for making the NCAA tournament, but not the NIT. I don’t think players can have bonuses like that with NIL, but I’m not sure.

With Auburn hosting, maybe that brings in extra $$ for the city and school? I doubt many fans travel for the game, so maybe not a ton.

Why not? Cohen has to make an effort, after giving up the Baylor home game this season.

We’re playing Georgia Tech in a top five baseball matchup on Tuesday. The NIT game is scheduled afterwards, so I could see more people making it across the street because of that. It is going to be near freezing, so I’d expect lower numbers. Feels like a Mississippi State AD decision to me.

OU was first out, and I believe they declined the NIT bid.

the official explanation for that was to sweeten the pot to get a home-and-home with Notre Dame in 2027/8

whether or not that explanation is legit, at least Cohen pulled that off, and i still give him props for hiring Golesh
