Interesting. That said, I’m not sure what matters anymore in college football recruiting. Not sure money spent or perceived value counts. It’s not like you can stockpile talent or build depth.
High school recruiting and development doesn’t even really make sense anymore. Why pay them and commit time to develop someone just for them to bolt after the first offer for more money shows up? Why bother prepping players for other programs?

Small sample size but only one high school recruit from DeBoer's first class transferred out.
I think the next year will give us a better idea of if our current roster building strategy is still viable.

I think the plan is to recruit guys who WANT to play for DeBoer and Alabama - guys who truly buy in. And as they develop, pay them rather than a team full of mercenaries. I hope it works.

That makes sense. Find guys that fit the scheme and mentality that you're looking for and build within. We will be a very young team next year in comparison to others out there, but hopefully we see some payout soon from this structure.
It seems like the NFL staffing model would be the way forward. Identify the 5-7 high priority positions and identify the players needed for those spots, pay them accordingly and then fill out the rest of the roster with solid, but non-elite players. Maybe that's how they are seeing it as well.
