It's one stat that leads to a series of quantitative questions like, "What is the variance in pt. differential vs quad 1 opponents, or even ranked opponents?" "What is the differential in Conference play?" "What is the differential on the road vs at home, or on the road vs a ranked opponent?"
As a stand-alone statistic, I just don't see the value. That's just my .02.

This stat is only meaningful against ranked teams.
As is it includes blowouts against inferior competition.

Season long point differential is a meaningless stat, especially when non-con has such a huge weight on it and no non-cons are equal.
LSU not being 2nd to last, or even close to that spot for that matter, despite being the 2nd worst team in the league is why I feel this way.
