Serious question: What grade would you give Lane Kiffin for the job he did at Ole Miss?

Here are some stats to ponder since the great John Vaught left in 1970.

Overall Record (at least one full year as HC)
Lane Kiffin: 2020–2025 55–19 .743
Billy Kinard: 1971–1973 16–9 .640
Hugh Freeze: 2012–2016 39–25 .609
David Cutcliffe: 1998–2004 44–29 .603
Tommy Tuberville: 1995–1998 25–20 .556
Billy Brewer: 1983–1993 67–56–3 .544
Ken Cooper: 1974–1977 21–23 .477
Matt Luke: 2017–2019 15–21 .417
Houston Nutt: 2008–2011 18–26 .409
Steve Sloan: 1978–1982 20–34–1 .373
Joe Lee Dunn: 1994 4–7 .364
Ed Orgeron: 2005–2007 10–25 .286

10 win seasons
Lane Kiffin: 4
Hugh Freeze: 1
David Cutcliffe: 1
Billy Kinard: 1

I would give him an A.
What do you think?

No one could give anything but an A+ for giving Ole Miss a few years of relevance.

No idea. Either an A- or a B+. He never won anything there but was competitive

Pretty hard to argue against it. I do wish he took his big job in a year that we weren’t in the playoff.

I get it....I told a friend of mine we would have been livid if Saban left us in 2003 after the regular season.

Then again, many of us are livid most of the time!

It's ole Miss... No one has won anything of importance there in 60 years.

Lane Elevated Ole Miss to a level they have never achieved...

If you are grading him against Saban's Bama, sure he wasn't at that Level. if you take into account that he was at Ole Miss. He exceeded every conceivable metric.

I think an A- is generous for a coach that has never won at any level. I was honestly thinking more like a solid B+

Depends on what you're grading against.

The vast majority of CFB coaches have never won anything at any level.

B+ is exactly where he should be graded after dropping three games against shite teams with a team that saw 8 starters get drafted in 2024.

LSU fans are hypocrites. You talk like a coach is garbage if they haven’t won a NC, and then you hire one and think he is unbeatable. Cannot have it both ways. On the LSU scale he isn’t even a B

I agree about 2024, but I thought he did his best coaching job this year which is why LSU was interested.

If he wasn't the LSU coach you would give him a higher grade. His team was one game away from the natty. An Ole Miss team that has as many playoff appearances as big money Aggy does.

It's almost like a fanbase is comprised of multiple different people with multiple different opinions.

I've never said a coach is garbage if he hasn't won a championship.

I also never said he was "unbeatable", he's a good coach and was probably the best option this cycle. That's it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see LSU lose 4 games next season, based on the roster and schedule.

What grade would you give Elko so far at aTm?

I'm curious.

I think he’s a good coach. Hence the A-. He hasn’t won enough to get an A yet. I taught college and that is how I would grade his performance.

Cignatti wasn’t available so yeah, he’s a top pull from coaches to choose from

I would give Elko a B at best. Probably a B-. His tanking at the end of the season is a disturbing pattern that would lower the grade if it continues

I did. I used to teach Cisco for several years in Colorado Springs. I’ve also taught at the Air Force Academy. Those days are long behind me though. I was tough, but gave enough extra credit that if students applied themselves they came out with a good grade.

I have a Masters in IT.

I think an A is a fair assessment. One thing Kiffin did was unify the base and show OM what it's capable of in this environment. I didn't like the way he handled leaving but no one can argue OM football isn't on a better path because of Carter, Kiffin and the Grove collective.

He gets an A. Anything other than that is crazy. In order to have gotten an A+, he would have needed to win the SEC or have multiple playoff appearances. He was good, no one would doubt that
