I really think this needs to happen more. IF the kids want to professionals, they need to learn the consequences of putting your sig on the dotted line.

Kudos to Duke for putting themselves out there and maybe winning this for sanity sake. Sadly though - until the rules change this will hurt Duke as they probably won't win the lawsuit. Win or lose, what will they be left with?...a little restitution (maybe) and a reputation for being combative over contracts when trying to sign new players.

Judge says Duke QB Mensah can't . . .

. . . enroll at another school for now.

This is just a TRO till Feb. 2 but it addresses the issue of there being a contract between the player and the school.

My question is, if Duke manages to force him to stay how do they get him to play?

Make miami still pay the money they promised while he stays at Duke. Penalizing the player just addresses that one players case. Penalizing the school that’s allegedly poaching would be better at cutting the head off the snake.

Not good.
The judge is wrong as a matter of law.

The controlling legal authority on this matter is the House settlement and court rulings.
The university is not allowed to use revenue sharing agreements to stop players from entering the portal.
