I kept thinking I was gonna pull for IU. But something about the whole thing feels off.

You go from being one of the worst programs ever to a dominant NC in two years with a roster full of 24 year olds??
It’s almost like if it was anyone but Indiana I’d be on board for this Cinderella run. Mississippi State? That kinda program and fanbase? Sure I’d love to see it. But fricking Indiana?
They whipped our arse and are a great fricking team. I expect them to win a deserved championship tonight. But as a “story”, I’d almost rather them just lose tonight and fade back. It’s like their program spent decades not giving a frick and boom, championship. I’d rather see other programs take this kinda run.

You would pull for State, but not Indiana because they whipped your arse?
Would you pull for Vandy because they're a perennial doormat, or no because they whipped your arse last year?

When Bob Knight was there it was always basketball. He won three natties at IU. Then men’s soccer began to dominate starting in the 1980’s. Now Mark Cuban is a huge football fan (who knew?) and they have a huge alumni base. If they keep their coaches and continue to spend money, they will be a threat for a long time.

No. I’m saying that Indiana as a program feels like they spent decades not building or even caring about their program and then in two short years bought a NC with 24 year olds.
I understand NIL is now us all trying to buy NC’s, but I’d rather see a fanbase that gave a frick before 5 seconds ago go on this kinda run.

They didn't really though.
It isn't like they went out and bought a bunch of all stars.

It might feel off, but the alternative is that Miami wins…

Point taken. Curt is a great coach and evaluator. But they did go out and raid the portal for older guys. I guess it’s less they outspent, and more played the game as it is well. I just don’t like modern CFB, between the super old players, constant transfers, and lack of loyalty.

I’d rather Indy win for recruiting reasons. Still a harder place to recruit compared to Florida.SEC pulls a lot of talent from Florida and a Miami win helps them over SEC. Indy would pull less from the south in comparison. And Indy could take from tOSU and Michigan/other B10.

Cignetti’s run suggests that you can still develop players (a lot of that team followed him from JMU or was at Indiana already), use the portal judiciously (payroll similar to the rest of the competitive teams below Miami, Ohio State, Oregon, and Texas), and coach kids hard.
I’m rooting for him because it validates more of the old way than the new to be quite honest.
