Sounds like Cam basically did the same. I strongly dislike Texas.

It does no good to get excited week 1 of the portal. I might just quit following it until next Saturday just to see how good or bad off we are.

Then why did the staff go after him?

To shore up depth at the position.
If Crowell can learn quickly enough to play as a Freshman, he has the physical skillset to be better than Smothers.
Otherwise Daniel Hill and AK Dear aren't bad options. We should be fine.

In the world of NIL college football, Bama takes whats left over from the schools with MASSIVE check books and donors with an agenda. It is what it is. History, tradition, location, etc have much less to do with it.

Same with Cam. Can anyone say we NEEDED him? Or was it a case of kick little brother while he's down (and out) and make that splash?
Then why did the staff go after him?

So the staff offered Cam $2 million just to appease fans?

The Collegiate Sports Commission is beginning an investigation this coming week into programs that are violating the allowable cap on NIL deals.
Certain programs, ahem, Texas, Texas A&M, are obviously violating this rule.

I've never heard of them and already have more faith in whatever they are than the NCAA to do something about it.

I think Hill will be good to go as our starter. Never knew he broke both legs in high school until recently. I’m also interested to see what Riley’s role will be. He slowly lost reps throughout the season and the jaw break didn’t help.

They have oversight of NIL. It’s not exactly the wild west and there are rules and caps on how much each program can invest.
I think programs like Texas are contacting players, through their agents, that are not even in the portal.

Same reason they got the 61st available DT today.

But I put my foot down at asking Cam Newton to join the squad.

That cap will last as long as it takes the first case to get in court. In a business you can’t keep A from offering someone more than B for their services.
What is going over fans’ heads, or they’re willfully ignoring it, or they are hoping someone will come in and restore all that is righteous and holy, is that this is equally a business and a sport. And in the eyes of the law, it’s no more special than any other business, the century of tradition is irrelevant.
I keep saying, it wasn’t the liberals on the Supreme Court that launched this, Gorsuch and Kavanaugh wrote the opinions on the 9-0 decision, and they signaled strongly that they are willing to go even farther toward the players’ side.
And fans can’t do a thing about it except stop tuning in and spending their money on the sport, because the courts are not going to consider their interests and desires.
