As a Texas fan, I’ve been sheltered from the portal chaos since its inception. Texas has been up there with Georgia in terms of roster retention and recruited starter snaps. Texas also hasn’t really pursued many ultra productive portal starter types. Man has this offseason been a 180. A majority of our 3rd team is gone. A handful of our 2nd team is gone, and we’ve lost a couple starters as well. I’m not in the program so it’s hard to say who was encouraged to leave, who we’d have liked to hold onto, etc. We’ve also thrown our hat in the ring for some potential “elite” portal guys, no luck yet, but I don’t recall us chasing any obvious big fish in previous windows. Texas will never be a market altering portal player while Sark is there, they prefer to throw their money around in the HS ranks for whatever reason. What a wild ride.

I'm just an idiot with a keyboard. I just feel like some of these coaches think that recruiting out of high school will give them players that are more loyal to the program vs signing out of the transfer portal. I think, for the most part, that kind of loyalty is gone from the sport for good. That is why I applauded Chambliss and Lacy for staying in Oxford. We need more of that.

Sark went 5-7 and 8-5 at UTrans before the transfer portal

That's a lot of words just to complain, "we aren't getting any of the portal players we thought we were cuz all yall are cheating and paying too much."

I can’t tell if coaches like it or hate it.

On one hand, they aren’t having to travel the country and stay away from their families for days/weeks at a time recruiting players.

They can just ask them for their routing/account number over the phone now and fly them in for hookers and blow.

But on the other hand it’s non-stop roster management/retention management/salary management, etc.

Can’t really develop life long relationships like you could with players that stuck with you for 4-5 years.

Now one player might be your best friend one year and gone the next. That has to be tough to cope with.

It appears we’re only losing battles to those players OG schools. Which is understandable.

Texas's portal haul so far looks like Muschamp is taking over after Sark leaves for an NFL gig

We have a winner. Good call.

I think your brass asked him to stay through the portal period but he certainly isn't working hard.

I know I give you guys a lot of shite, but I do feel bad for your fans and other schools that are dealing with this new bullshite game...including my own.

I'm about tapped out.

UTrans wasn’t even in the top half of the SEC in offense this year and people are just pretending NFL GMs are trying to break down Sark’s door for his services

He had the worst rushing offense of his entire coaching career, made the RB coach out to be the scapegoat and brought in Jabbar fricking Juluke to save the day

For a guy who hasn’t been a full-time DC in a decade.

But did you see him punch that dry erase board over 15 years ago?!?!

Our former 5 Star Linebacker Bo Barnes just hit the portal. Next in line type guy on a team with no LBs. I don’t get it.

Another inexplicable move that only makes sense in the context of Sark being out. If I was secretly leaving my job, I would tell my buddy to find another job and fire him so he gets his buyout.

Makes me think of that video Desmond Howard posted in the middle of the season.

Holy spin job

If Sark knew he was leaving for the NFL, he’d simply bring his DC with him, he wouldn’t fire him solely out of friendship.

What a take.

Sark could easily get hired as an NFL OC, and he doesn't get to "take his DC with him" in that scenario. And it could be unrelated to the NFL. Maybe Texas fires him for cause.

To be clear, I think Sark will be coaching at Texas next season. But if he isn't, it will have been easy to see coming.
