It’s not Game of Thrones, and it’s not about all the message board drama.

The Ole Miss coaching staff and the LSU coaches who have stuck around for the playoff aren’t doing it for Pete or for Lane. They’re doing it for the players.

Lane sticking around wouldn’t have worked because he checked out after the first Georgia loss. And that’s fine. The other coaches have been all-in the whole way, and you’re seeing the fruits of that.

2 more games. For the players.

Then they’re all yours.

Ole Miss’ AD clearly wasn’t as embarrassed by his OC, RB, WR and QB coach leaving him for LSU as he was when Lane Kiffin did it.

The same people who were flipping Charlie Weis Jr. off at the airport for taking a better job are now begging him to stay

Except for a few posters here, seems like it's all working out for everyone. I got no problem with any of it

LSU fans have been such hypocrites during this entire deal.

You burned Saban effigies when he came to Alabama from Miami and now you want to whine about how Ole Miss reacted?

I don’t give a frick what Ole Miss thinks. I don’t give a frick what the College Football world thinks. If this happened to any school the reaction would be the same. Y’all just happen to be on an LSU run board so you have to deal with LSU fan’s shite. Don’t like it. Find another board.

The main event was the burning of Saban, the coach who is a villan to some LSU fans for going to Alabama after leaving the NFL. (Never mind that every time LSU fans become consumed with Saban, it's a slap in the face to their highly successful coach, Les Miles, who has "only" gone 40-8 with a national title in four seasons. Never mind that this obsession with Saban reveals insecurities about LSU's fan base.)

The burning couldn't come soon enough. "Where's our defensive coordinator?" one LSU student shouted. "Torch him." Ouch. Such is life when you surrender two 50-point games in one season.

Finally, a man in a purple suit arrived for the moment of truth. Hanging above some hay was a scarecrow with a cutout picture of Saban for a face, donned in an Alabama hat, a set of headphones, and a T-shirt that read "Got Nick?" The crowd tried different chants.

"Burn, Saban, Burn."
"Burn him up."
"Burn this man."
"Fire him up."

The strongest chant was "LSU, LSU, LSU," which reverberated into the night as Saban burned and some in the crowd muttered that it looked like they were torching Jesus. The disturbing moment, captured on tape by countless media outlets, will probably be shown by CBS on Saturday to a national TV audience. That means a couple hundred LSU fans may manage to accomplish the unthinkable: Turn Nick Saban into a sympathetic figure.
