Cavaliers supported the King during the English Civil War. A bunch of them decided to flee, and at that time England was sending people over here to colonize as you may surely be aware. A bunch of them of course wound up in Virginia since that was the 1600s and that's where England was sending folks. The Puritans were doing their own thing and sailing to points north of Virginia on the continent. As I'm sure you can imagine, those Cavaliers and their aristocratic attitude came with them to Virginia, and thus, we saw the beginnings of the Old South aristocratic attitude.
