The first sign of Alabama’s fall to mediocrity

“Who could we get to replace Him”
This quote is a flashing sign that your program has fallen, but you just don’t realize it yet.
When teams are holding on to a coach that they are sour on, but they can’t think of who they could replace him with, we hear these desperate words.
There was a time when the “who” was whoever Alabama wanted.
Now, the “who” is a perplexing reality that who they imagine restoring their glory already has the better job. (Or retirement)

The one that’s 2-1 against the best coach in our league? Or the one who is the only other coach in our league to make a NC? How about the one that made the playoffs in year 2 after a major transition?
That the one you’re talking about?

More like most of their existence, except for a year here and there.

The “one” isn’t a specific coach. There was a recent time when AL just named who they wanted and that man dropped whatever and whoever and ran to AL.
Now? They have to wonder “who can we get?”
This question isn’t about whether anyone out there is good enough, this question is now asking who would come.
The irony is that there is one (Lane) that would be the dynasty leader, instantly lifting AL back to automatic loss on the schedule, and presumed #1 every year.
This is a far cry from making the playoffs being the new pitiful expectation.

That sounds exactly like a lot of LSU’s fans with Kelly.

Never change LSU fans, never change

If our mediocrity is making the playoffs, then that works for me…
Which means that LSU hasn’t even been “mediocre” in 6 years.
Maybe you should worry about getting yourselves UP to mediocrity before worrying if we’re falling into it.

None of what you are saying is even remotely true.

Oh yeah. I remember how sought after Shula, Price, Franchione, and DuBose were when we hired them.

When we hired Saban, we were turned down by Spurrier(who went to South Carolina instead) and then by Rich Rod.
It's why I think all those "top 5 job" posts are dumb. Every coach is going to have their preferences.
And you don't hire GOAT coaches to start with. They become GOAT coaches while at the school. Bear wasn't a GOAT when he was hired, he won all those championships while at Alabama. Nick Saban wasn't the GOAT when he was hired either, wasn't even considered the best coach in football at that time. Became the GOAT at Alabama.

This has never been the case. I guess you’re not old enough to remember everything that went down during the Saban hire.

This is just laughable

I never realized how deeply losing St. Nick to Alabama wounded them. Deeeeep.
Obsessed only scratches the surface.

LSU is going to lose to Clemson, Ole Miss, and A&M and will start the year 1-3 next year. It’s going to be hilarious.
