So I ran into Ty today. I was at the Mr. Football Tennessee for my nephew, and he was there with his family and brother. Sat a table away from his family; and was facing their direction just by happenstance. I can say pretty confidently that the “back issue” is a real thing. The dude was grimacing a good amount and seemed relatively uncomfortable or unhappy. To a point where some non Bama fans at my table were saying, “he looks miserable”. One of my nephews coaches even said, “is he hurt, his face looks like he is in pain.” I spoke with him for a bit, he was friendly, and took pictures. You can tell he has been raised in a good home; made eye contact with everyone and made them feel like he genuinely cared and wanted to be approached.

I gave him a simple roll tide, chatted a bit about meeting him last year, and told him I appreciate him taking a picture, and all he does for Alabama. Wished him luck and gave him one more roll tide for the road. We also chatted a bit about the support for the tide in TN. He was a cool guy. My wife said “I don’t think I can cuss him any more; he is literally a baby.” It does give some perspective.

It’s not something the coach is going to announce but he has a back injury. Just is what it is. I guess not far enough gone to bench him. I just want what’s best for him and our chances to win. Whatever that is.

Poor dude. He was playing at such a high level too. A back injury makes perfect sense, as it affects everything you do x10.

But honestly, this makes DeBoer not even trying another QB all the more aggravating. He better have another guy up because healthy Ty id put out there against anyone, but this hurt Ty we’ve had to watch is not very good.

Yeah, it is definitely a back, from what I saw today, may even be a neck too. He was certainly in some discomfort.

Tell him when throwing one away to aim at Grubb if he has the time.

-3 yards....

Yeah, if he wasn't hurting before Saturday night, I'm certain he's still feeling it now. He had a bad night.. just like Jalen Hurts did last night.

Both are winners in my book.

Ty is a baller though and he has sacrificed a lot for the season. Someone on this board stated the same thing G-Mac said yesterday... "Ty is one of the most gifted QB's to come through the program, he (and they) need to get their swag and confidence back. Simplify the game, every play doesn't need an adjustment"

Here's to an Alabama squad we hope will play up to it's potential... and that means the coaching as well.

PS - O-line, I want you irate if your QB gets disrespected.

This is what I will say…dudes had a rough skid these last few weeks. He isn’t perfect, but I’ll always have love for him for the respect he has shown me on two separate occasions. Both times, he has been a fantastic ambassador for the university of Alabama. Side note: i also walked right by Jared Curtis, 5* QB vandy commit, dude is huge. I mentioned last year that I was a bit bigger than Ty. Not that kid, he is a unit. As is Gabriel George, 5* RB for next year. Those two are grown men.

Man I honestly hate to hear that. Not for the sake of the program, but for his quality of life. I’ve dealt with back pain for most of my adult life, and it’s only gotten worse as I’ve aged. Hopefully he won’t have the same issues I’ve had. He’s too young to have to deal with that

You saw him getting treated on TV during the AU game. I assume the reason he is struggling with balls down field. I have to wonder do the coaches trust Mack right now as I think we would not see Russell until the 3rd round to protect his redshirt. IIRC Russell has played in two games only so far.

I believe post season games no longer count toward determining whether you are eligible to redshirt. He could play and still be redshirted.

This is correct. Conference championship, bowl, and/or CFP games don't count towards a redshirt.

I mean, he seemed uncomfortable. That makes him look like he is dead or just leaving in general. He did give me two roll tides lol

I’m not even sure who that guy is. I haven’t heard of the backup being prepared in that manner but the coaches need to make a decision when real practice starts where this is headed.
