Why would the SEC do this?

ND would NEVER agree to play football in the SEC. They'd lose 5 games a year.

Yea I’d prefer ND not have a direct pipeline to SEC recruiting grounds.

No. They want all sports minus football in a conference. The BIG East is where they need to be.

Yea Texas, Missouri, and Oklahoma are psuedo-southern

Nothing Southern about South Bend, Indiana.

Great move. Makes the conference stronger.
Everyone who says no has no sack.

I'm hoping we're in a moment where all of the major conferences band together to give ND a giant FU. Sankey needs to coordinate with other conferences to force ND into a conference.

How do you do that? It's simple. All conferences agree not to schedule ND until the fully join a conference.

From our northern most school, in our true Southern states, it is still 5 more hours north to a dang Great Lake.

Does not seem very SEC.

Distance between Gainesville, FL and South Bend, IN: 1,011 miles

The distances between Columbia, SC and Austin or Norman is further, but not by much. Columbia to Houston is a SMIDGE closer.

That said, South Bend, IN feels as far removed from being "Southern" as Boston.

Ever been to Indiana outside of Indianapolis? Indy is as hick as any SEC state. They talk with a twang and love racing and making a lot of farm equipment.

There is no way in hell the SEC would agree to an ACC type deal with Notre Dame. Maybe, maybe, they would agree if they came in with football too but I doubt it.

As much as I want to travel to South Bend to see LSU play, this is just ridiculous. No chance.

You're thinking of Southern Indiana. Not South Bend. I've been to both.
