Wait so like they are basically buying the athletic dept?

Like if Mark Cuban bought into Baylor and did the hiring/firing and reaped a portion of the revenue?

That is how it reads to me.

Chris Childers and Rick Neuheisal feel the same according to their radio show on Sirius XM this morning.

Neuheisel was telling the story this morning that when Pebble Beach sold to private investors years ago, seven investors paid $750,000,00 each. Today that investment is worth 14 million. This is the way that college football is heading.

Private equity getting involved in something has never turned out to have disastrous long term consequences.

Private equity firms have gotten their grubby hands on Jersey Mike's and Denny's recently.

They better not be coming after Waffle House.

What are you talking about? Private equity firms always make the product get better..

eta: I should read the whole thread before responding.

I ordered Jersey Mikes a couple months ago and it was a bit light on the meat. Made note of it but didn't swear it off. May have been a one-off lazy employee on the slicer.

Ordered it again in the last month and told my family I will no longer be ordering anything from Jersey Mikes because they're serving bread sandwiches.

I knew the private equity enshittification loop was going to happen but I swear this was a speed run.

This is just another reason that we need some rails on this train. If not we are gonna wind up with something like the minor leagues/farm with players getting called up midseason or something. Or teams shopping out a stake in the revenue shares to saudi princes or some shite

I'm closer to saying "private equity needs big government regulation because it is death drive, not sustainable, capitalism" than "hell yes, private equity needs to buy my tide!"

This sucks!

My wife loves Jersey Mike's. She was super pissed when it was announced that Prattville was getting one about a month after we moved to Texas.

Thankfully, her favorite thing there is the pepper relish and one positive byproduct of the private equity acquisition is they sell the pepper relish in jars at the store now so we just make our own Italian subs at home and use their relish.

We ate that for supper two nights ago.

Alabama needs to have the Saudis sponsor us as their college football team.

They like winners from horses, cars, etc. Why not us.

With this NIL it was always a thought. I know its crazy but with this Utah deal might not be so much

They've basically taken over the English Premier League, too.

Meh, I think this is a nothing burger.

College athletics don't fit the PE model, so while we may see a couple groups/schools try this, the ROI won't be there for widespread PE takeover.

Ironically, I met two different couples from Saudi Arabia at the LSU game a few weeks ago...

They may be one step ahead of you
