With events and such. The portal and other new happenings have taken it down to almost an afterthought.

Yup, now it's more like "sign with these guys for 5 minutes" day. And I know that money has always been in recruiting, but it's incredible heavy handed & offputting these days.
Most of the aura, mystique, the relationship building etc. seems have been replaced by Ben Franklin. It's just boring & one note these days imo.
It sucks, because recruiting used to be the big thing all offseason. The last few years it's been:
-watch final UGA game of the year
-check once the roster is officially settled for the spring
-watch the spring game
-go do other stuff until about August 20th
