It's pretty clear this is either the lifeline or death knell on Beamer. If he can make a good hire and we have a serviceable offense next season I'll be happy but he hasn't really proved he can do that so we'll see I reckon.

Candidates?

I think the OCs/coaches that might be worth kicking the tires on would be:

John David Baker, OC, ECU
Jonathan Smith, recently fired HC at Sparty - this would be a wild choice but I'd be for it.
Jonathan Brewer, OC, Duke

Who else ya got?

anyone else?

I heard the ECU guy is the top target. Not the most exciting hire but at least he has more than one year of good production on his resume and has SEC experience.

I thought I saw that Ole miss was looking at him. If that is true I doubt we get him

We will get sloppy seconds and thirds..

Ive lost all faith in Beamer. I see what Indiana has done with Cignetti and realize how far Beamer is from that level.

Whole bunch of smoke around Kevin Decker including his QB hitting the portal.

I don't keep up with coordinators, but would this be a good pickup?

Was pretty good at ODU, not a long time coaching though. I believe he's a Heupel acolyte in terms of philosophy. I don't think he's coached with him but employs a similar system. He's from the NY area, wonder if that might open some recruiting lanes for us.

His numbers are great. He almost led ODU to a upset of the Gamecocks last year. Imo a better choice than the ECU oc

while I agree that almost happened, it wasnt because of their Offense. They scored 19 in that and their QB had less than 200 passing yards. Their defense won the day.

Kevin Decker is in third second season as Old Dominion's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

In his second season as ODU's offensive coordinator, Decker's offensive numbers improved nearly across the board, as the Monarchs led the Sun Belt in rushing yards and in red zone offense. ODU led the country in red zone offense, going 38-for-40 and scoring at a 95

The rushing yards are what impress me a little bit with him as I am looking into it (slow day at work).

The passing numbers are okay. I am curious with our line situation, and SEC defenses how quickly he could turn the run game around

So against the top defenses Decker performed better

I mean I guess, they were both still pretty inconsistent. For Decker its about how quickly he could transform the run game. Seems he needs it to be successful. With Baker being more of an air raid guy it may be easier for him to get the ball out quick and minimize the lack of OL. Neither of them really excite me, but big programs are reaching out to both and those coaches know ball far better than I do.

I just wish Beamer would hurry the hell up and hire someone

The rumblings I am hearing from a buddy of mine (who is generally right, but isn't an insider or anything, so take it with a grain of salt) is that it is looking like Decker.

So the question for you, or anyone. If it is Decker, do you want his QB also? I think I have still haven't moved past the Colin Hill situation, and I do think i'd like to see Lanorris in a different style offense. I wasn't happy with his play, but he certainly has the tools.

Insiders are saying that Decker is in the final stage of contract negotiations with us. One thing I do like about his offense is it spreads people out like Tennessee and keeps the defense from loading the box
