I don't think you would have liked the Urban Meyer hire.
I'll let you in on a secret - you don't generally hire GOAT coaches. They become GOAT coaches while at your school.

Idk why youre so mad. Hiring a lower tier coach is just as safe as a decorated coordinator. You could have the cignetti. You also could have the next Napier. But if you hired the DC from Ohio state you could have the next mcelwain or Pruitt. Its kindve just a roll of the dice. Probably shouldn't have canned mullen

Yes exactly this. I look at coaching hires like playing poker. You look at a guy and it looks like a good hand, but if it pays or not depends on all the other cards. All you can do is play those high suited connected cards and pass/fold on the 7/2s.
If you play AA and you lose, that's just the way it goes, but it's still the best hand and it's still what you want to play. Sometimes 7/2 pays off, but you don't generally want to play it.
Urban Meyer had 4 years as a HC before Florida hired him. He managed to take Utah to #5 I think on a MWC schedule which was good, but he was still a G5 coach with limited experience. Before he was hired at Utah he was a 2 year coach at Bowling Green with 8-3 and 9-3 records where he improved the shite outta them(2 win teams prior).
Find a good hand and hope for the best. If it works it works, if not play the next hand. I the Florida AD has the right formula.

Nah. He's gonna fit there. Solid coach and will improve over time. I think great things are in store for the Gators.
