Beat the ever living shite out of Alabama in the SECCG and knock them out of the playoffs altogether. Would be the Funeral Game for a new generation. Gump currently is 10th and a win over Auburn on Saturday wouldn't help them move up. Playoff Committee says that conference championship games are another data point, and a proper shite kicking would be a strong data point.
Make it happen Texas, basically.

Would love to win the SECCG, but hate the first round bye.
Ideal playoff would be win Friday and finish 5th in CFP standings. Easy home game against trash to get ready for neutral site domination over #4

Finish 5th and get whatever team from the American they serve up to be slaughtered in Athens in the first round.
They have serious hatred for the sunbelt for some reason. It should be JMU but oh well

It's all subjective and there's not really a right or wrong answer, but if we don't make the SECCG then I'd rather go ahead and get a double bye. I think that Kirby would have the team calibrated and ready to go after the layoff.
Guess I'm not as excited about a home playoff game against James Madison or North Texas as some Dawg fans are. Game would be over by the middle of the third quarter and if we're going to risk injury, we might as well be playing for a championship and a trophy, especially with every other fan base watching us and hating on us for winning again.

My head says this is the best scenario for a playoff run, my heart wants to whup Bama’s arse in the SECCG first and worry about the playoffs later.
Feels kind of gross to say, but go Texas and Auburn.

If bama loses to Auburn and all of UGA A&M and OSU win this weekend the big ten championship would be 1 vs 2 and the Sec championship would be 3 vs 4
In this scenario I don’t think the outcomes of the games would matter other than deciding the order of 1-4 of those teams because no matter who wins either game all of them will remain top 4 seeds

Drive the enemy before us and hear the lamentations of their women.

We weren’t calibrated last year…in fact, no bye team was…
There’s something about taking 6 weeks off from live games that just isn’t right. You can practice all you want, but nothing is like game experience. Give me the warmup game before the 2 game playoff - all day

Yeah especially for our brand of football. Over a month off isn’t likely to do anything good for us

Somehow a balance between getting playing time for a young team that is getter better and being healthy.
Beat Tech
A&M beats Bama in SECCG
Committee moves Texas Tech above us

No offense, but i see people blaming the bye on our loss last year...and other losses. But the entire system was set up for failure giving Arizona State, Boise, Penn State and of course, Georgia automatic byes.
Arizona State and Boise were never going to win and were probably the two weakest teams in the layoffs last year.
Georgia ran into a buzz saw (ND) that ended up beating a pretty good Penn State team and play for a National Championship. Not to mention we had a new QB starting his first game.
Oregon had the misfortune of running into a very motivated Ohio State team that ended up winning the title.
We have byes every year and typically do very well coming off the bye. Byes are very important for preparation and healing up lingering injuries.
I will say this...a double bye (If we do not play in the SECCG and remain at #4.....can still give us time to heal from injuries....the only problem is it can sometimes be difficult to keep a team focused and locked in with two weeks between games. Some coaches will try to battle that by taking a couple of days off then having run through style practices for the first week, then do regular practices the second week.
But, I don't think a bye week in an of itself caused losses last season.

Arizona State and Texas went overtime. Ohio State was on a mission and ran over Oregon just like they ran over Tennessee. Boise State was the DEI team. And we had a first time starting quarterback and our team was sort of scatterbrained and not all that great to begin with.
Sample size is an annoying sports term and it's annoying when people try to turn college football into a science, but there's not enough sample size. The idea of risking injury to play a game to knock off some rust is questionable. A player gets hurt in the conference championship game and they have 5 weeks to recover. A player gets hurt in a first round CFP game and they have 10 days to recover.
Having a month off didn't stop us from setting the all-time bowl record for biggest beatdown in history or having the most thorough first half shite kicking in CFP history.
