Why this Lane Kiffin situation is important to so many programs.

This is all about pride.
Florida, like Texas, is a program with abundant resources that has sucked on mediocrity for far too long. Their fans are growing restless because they are wondering if their administration is even willing to invest what it takes to be competitive in football again.
LSU was a dominant program prior to NIL. LSU has always had natural advantages, primarily the abundance of talent in their backyard. But LSU fans are worried that NIL will take away their natural advantages. When kids are more interested in getting that bag rather than staying home to play for the home state team, that presents problems for LSU. LSU wants to land Kiffin to prove that they will remain relevant in this changing landscape.
Ole Miss has had arguably the greatest run in program history the last handful of years with Kiffin. Prior to Kiffin, their program had never had a ten win regular season. Kiffin has taken their program to new heights. They believe that they have turned the corner and become a program that will be consistently relevant after 6 decades of irrelevance. They believe that their administration and fans are buying in like never before, and they have arrived. If Kiffin were to leave their program in the middle of a natty run because he believes his future will be brighter elsewhere, it would be the ultimate hit to their collective ego.

I think for us it has simply morphed into being held for ransom at this point. We are in damage control mode to try to continue on with the playoffs while not having an SEC rival head coach in our facility and getting someone in place before the portal opens. I have a feeling that our previous offer is simply sitting on his desk to not give any ammo to a PR battle that CAA and their media lackeys will unleash on us to try to give poor Kiffin a chance to coach the team in the CFP.

Why haven’t you guys made the playoff post covid then?

He's done an amazing job at Ole Miss, no doubt. But I have trouble with the "new heights" argument considering that he has gotten us nowhere different than where Freeze got us. That may change this year, and hopefully so. The only betterment that Kiffin has over Freeze at this point is a single 11 win season, where Freeze's was 10 wins.

Lane has brought your program 4 double digit win seasons. Freeze brought you 1. That level of consistency has not been seen in Ole Miss history.

I didn’t read this, I just assumed it was asinine.

I want Lane to stay, for a host of reasons, but in the NIL era, if you have a good coach, you'll stay in the hunt with the right amount of money. We've got the cash and the will to stay relevant.
Again, hope he stays, but if he doesn't, it's not like the ceiling is going to instantly cave in on the program. Ideally, he'd stay about 3 more years, getting to the playoffs one more time.

Is that why in the 30 years before Nick Saban arrived they went 186-142-10? That is a 56.7% winning percentage. They went 101-92-6 in SEC play. That is a 52.3% winning percentage. Outside of 2000-2012 LSU has been a very average SEC football program with the occasional above average season sprinkled in every decade or so.

Depends on if you have the right coach. Aggy has a ton of money and they haven’t won shite.

LSU has won 3 nattys this century. That’s on par with Ohio State and trails only Bama during the same period.

I'm not saying the coach is unimportant--obviously the coach is. Only that it's not as important as it has been in the past.

Must be using the bag on the last 3 coaches they've had to fire...even with all those "advantages" lol.

By the way, your LSU fandom is showing through in the post. Stay focused, this is supposed to be a Georgia fan. In this thread you shite on Florida, Texas, and Ole Miss. You prop LSU up as a great program. And then you bake in a NIL excuse for their struggles.
