The old bowl conference tie-in setup is what caused the bowls to mean less

This and the players opting out are the major drivers for the traditional bowls to be 25% filled stadiums. The NY6 are still intriguing games but the rest are filler for the tv execs and the gambling aficionados. How would you fix the bowl system?

There is no fixing it without expanding the playoff way too much.

Teams in the top 25 are disappointed if they fail to make the playoff.

There are a multitude of factors, not the least of which is that Division I-A/FBS was never set up to be conducive to a playoff structure in the first place.

The NY6 are part of the playoffs now.

I have all kinds of ideas on what to do with the current bowl game situation but getting 35 bowl games to go along with it lacking any kind of enforcement makes it impossible.

No, the playoff expansion is what caused it to mean less. Saban said this would happen, and it has.

The highlight of the holiday season used to be watching bowl games with the in-laws. Now you’re lucky if you even recognize the backups names on the field.

So, if there aren’t conference tie-ins, HOW would to put teams in bowls?

Let them die. They were artificial creations of the cable tv era, and they shall perish with it.
