Flawed because they are not taking the top twelve reams. Tulane is projected yet there are five SEC teams ranked higher than Tulane and not in playoffs, Vanderbilt, Texas, Tennessee, Missouri, possibly Oklahoma. This weak conference champion BS needs to go. Simply take the top 12, period.

James Madison should be the stupid g5 rep anyway. They obviously have a bias against the sunbelt. The g5 is just “best team in the American.”

It’s a bit of a total fraud. Any team should have to earn it like anyone else. If you’re a g5 team this likely means schedule one big p4 team ooc and one mid tier p4 ooc at least.

Politics. The NCAA will never allow the playoffs without guaranteed spots for “lesser” conferences. If you want that situation, the NCAA must dissolve

Obvious to me the G5 should have their own playoff.

A conference champ deserves a slot before the #4 team from a conference does.

Reduce the field if anything.

It's a start. There will be adjustments. The current process is making allowances for the lesser conferences so that they'll have some interest as the season progresses.
Saying the system sucks is throwing the baby out with the bath water.
To accommodate what you desire, the top 12 only, the system would need to exclude all conferences not in the Power 4.the other conferences should create their playoff system. This situation may be where we end up, but it's a process that takes some time to resolve.

In something like basketball where there's a ginormous field, I'd agree but in football we're putting rent-a-wins in the playoffs when that same rent-a-win would not serve as a quality win for our own teams' resumes.

you're not going to just get rid of the G6 Champ....this idea is DOA

Mizzou is probably out of the top 25 after this week. Weak argument for Tennessee as well

If you want a playoff big enough to capture Vandy, expand to 16, top 4 conference champs guaranteed homefield (winning a conference has to mean something)

I'd like to see Miami and BYU in as well. And Alabama should be assured a spot if they beat Auburn. Losing a conference champ game should not be a penalty to anyone

The AQ idea is the best I’ve seen floated. 4 for the big 10 and SEC 2 for big 12 and ACC. Expand it to 14 for an at large and group of 5. Force ND into the ACC.

Conference champ weekend 1 and 2 play each other knowing they will get 1 of the AQ bids each but winner gets a bye. 6 plays at 3 and 5 plays at 4 and the winner of those games get the final 2 AQ spots.

Suggestion.

SEC and BIG get 5 guarantees in the top 12 field. They can have more but only 5 guarantees.

Seed 10,11,12 are play in seed where they have to play 3 additional at large teams to secure a top 12. These would probably be lower tier conference vs the leftover power conference making a CFP spot argument.

So essentially a 15 team CFP.

Of course it's flawed but how would you fix it?

Yesterday Saban opined about it comparing it to March Madness. He said what is it 65 or 68 teams get in and we did a 2-hour show on the ones that didn't make the tournament.

I think it caught the rest of the crew off guard because it must have sounded like Saban was dissing the network so they all jumped in saying it was good show, kind of a telling moment.
