BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M University announced a new six-year contract through 2031 for Director of Athletics Trev Alberts following authorization from The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents.
"As we navigate the changing college athletics landscape, Trev Alberts' professionalism, knowledge and business-minded approach is just what we need to compete boldly in the future," Interim President Tommy Williams '78 said. "His new, extended contract reflects our confidence in a leader who embodies our core values and understands the heartbeat of Aggie Athletics is the 12th Man."

We need some stability. OK with this as long as he stays out of Elko's way. I think bringing in buckyball was a good idea.

A@M can’t figure out why they ever fail? Give coaches raises after one to two seasons one of which wasn’t anything special … this year A@M is a success story based on their schedule …. Alberts has been a head case everywhere he’s been…. I suspect two more large buyouts will be inbound

Well to be fair to A&M, this time they had to. There were several prominent coaching positions open, and Elko is currently undefeated. If they didn't pay him, he was gone.

He’s been great for us; I can’t speak to his resume elsewhere.
Sometimes you just have to find a good landing spot … a poor fit one place doesn’t mean a different environment won’t work out.
I wouldn’t say we “fail.”

In a short time here, he’s become one of the most annoying posters to many fan bases, plus most of his replies read like a 4 year old tapped it out with his toes.
Clumsy trollchild or angry geezer.

He has some decisions to make coming up. Coach G. has a contract expiring in March, so they have to find a new Women's soccer coach. A once strong program that has trailed off. I have been a supporter of Coach Joni Taylor, but things haven't gone as hoped for over the last few seasons. But so far, things are off to a good start, so I am hopeful that this isn't a needed hire anytime soon. Baseball, we will see. Coach Earley had a rough start last season. Selecting and hiring coaches is only a part of the gig. So, there must be confidence that Trev Alberts will be able to deliver there as well. So far, Coach Elko looks good. I was really happy with the hire. Loved him as DC and followed Duke when he took the HC gig there a few years ago. Hated to see him leave. Ecstatic that he is back.

Alberts is the shield for Elko from our meddlesome boosters. I'm more than okay with this. Not a surprise it is the same length as Elko's extension.

I mean his cheapness did run off our baseball coach, but how much of that was Alberts and how much was the department dealing with the Jimbo buyout?

Schloss wanted to suck Del Conte's dick. Had nothing to do with Alberts

How exactly has Alberts been solid? He totally whiffed on the baseball hire, as evident by the embarrassment of a season last year. The basketball hire was underwhelming, remains to be seen how that pans out. What has he done other than those two unimpressive hires?

How did he whiff the baseball hire? He listened to the team and took their input. If Earley doesn't produce he will fire him. But Earley will get a few years to prove himself first. And the basketball hire is not underwhelming. A&M basketball is an afterthought in the coaching community

As an athletic director failing is hiring someone to a ten year contract and buying them out after 5-6 years for a record 70 plus million dollars lol…. I realize this new athletic director didn’t do that but he just payed a new coach is to say is very unproven . He could be setting himself up for another athletic department failure . Maybe the head coach works out but the point is until your sure … you don’t offer lucrative contracts and Elko has done nothing yet to secure such a contract …. He’s has a good season but it’s not even finished yet and he already has a new deal .

You’re really not that bright are you?
You realize we burned the whole program down before last season
So in just one year football went from ashes and ruin to 11-0 and counting

If A&M didn't give Elko a raise and extension he'd be gone after the season.

And it was only a one year extension
His contract automatically gained a year for making the playoffs

Ok but what about Maryland stealing our BBall coach?

You’re correct: Alberts wasn’t involved in the prior coach’s contract.
You may feel Elko hasn’t yet earned the extension, but the Texas A&M Board of Regents clearly disagreed. Of course you’re free to see it differently.
Bottom line: A&M needed to make a strong, public statement of confidence in Elko, ending any speculation about his long-term future in College Station—particularly in light of the recent news Penn State offered him.
A clear message had to be sent to every program currently scrambling for a head coach: Our guy is off the market.

Buzz was told to find something else. He wasn't getting a new contract because he was too expensive for the results he produced. I actually like the Bucky hire.
