Its almost always at best a lateral move. Of the 10 or so schools looking for a coach right now there may be one, Florida, who upgrades...if they hire Ole Miss's coach. If LSU does it is a lateral at best. Va Tech probably upgraded but it is not a slam dunk. Most will go backward.

As for Kiffin what has he done? I get it that someone has to be the coach at LSU or Florida but has Kiffin actually accomplished anything? Ole Miss has been very good the last 2 seasons but its not like Ole Miss is Vanderbilt...Ole Miss has been good before. What is well established about Kiffin is he will leave, consider leaving and be controversial....as far as winning and losing he is pretty pedestrian in my opinion. His winning % as a head coach is around .700 which is closer to 8-4 than it is to 9-3 and 9-3 isn't great when you consider you have 2 rent a wins a year at least. I think its a 50/50 situation that Kiffin is the upgrade that so many seem to think he is. He also apparently had some personal issues that usually do not go away completely in life....

Well, we've lost games directly because of dumbass decisions from him. The only thing he brings is star power.

I'm done with this guy. I'm ready for him to be someone else's problem.

That was a slam dunk hire for v tech. Franklin owned recruiting in Virginia during his tenure at PSU. His record outside of top 10 matchups is great, and he won’t be playing a lot of top 10 teams in the ACC. Huge upgrade over brent pry for them, they should contend in the ACC again

As for other programs upgrading, there are a few (Florida, UCLA) who will almost assuredly upgrade no matter who they hire over their prior coach

Then there is LSU, PSU, Arkansas who are unlikely to upgrade this cycle compared to who was prior coach

You decided this before seeing who they hire.

While everyone else is sitting around waiting on Lane, or waiting on a coach who is waiting to see what happens with Lane.

VT punked everybody else that's open by going out and signing the best coach on the market first.

I may not like Franklin much, but he recruits well and wins, which most of the programs could use right now.

Plus, he landed in a spot with lots of recruitable talent, a tradition to pitch, and an easy path to the playoff.

Exactly. Franklin is a good recruiter but probably a even better developer, he sends a lot of guys who are productive in the league who were 3* or 4* out of HS. He isnt the right fit for a top program, but he is a good coach. I think he would be the 6th or 7th best coach in the conference if he were back in the SEC

I'm inclined to agree. He had Vandy winning 9 games before the transfer portal and 7th year QBs.
