Louisiana is corrupt, Brian Kelly will lose. Why this is wonderful for the rest of us.

I fully expect Brian Kelly’s legal argument to be solid and still lose in the 19th Judicial District Court in East Baton Rouge. Louisiana’s legal system has a reputation, and not a flattering one.
Why the rest of the SEC is quietly celebrating. This situation is already a black eye for LSU. It’s a school that sees itself as elite, able to land any coach it wants. But if the court rules against Kelly, it sends a loud message to every coach out there: you can’t beat the system, especially when the system is stacked.
Naturally, Kelly would appeal to the First Circuit Court of Appeal. Even if that court does the right thing, the case drags on, stays in the headlines, and makes LSU look toxic to top-tier coaching talent. If the First Circuit sides with the lower court, Kelly’s last shot is the Louisiana Supreme Court, which can choose whether or not to hear the case. Either way, the media circus continues, and the damage to LSU’s reputation deepens.
The kicker, even if Kelly wins at any level, he’d still need the Louisiana legislature to approve payment. And that’s a whole other mess. The state currently has $300 million in unpaid legal judgments. It’s broke, crime-ridden, and simply doesn’t have the money to pay what it owes.

The states and schools do not pay coaches salary. They have private organizations separate from the schools themselves that do. Alabama technically only paid Saban like $200k a year. The rest of his salary was paid by boosters.

They are reporting, his lawsuit against the state of Louisiana . Therefore, should he win, the state is on the hook. I am not a lawyer, what was being reported on ESPN Baton Rouge.

I don't know the LSU setup, but doesn't sound right to me.
At Alabama, there are separate organizations because no way in fricking hell is a state employee going to be paid millions of dollars every year.

Pretty sure Alabama's coach is a state employee.

Yes, Saban made like $200-$250k a year as a state employee. I think he also got a pension.
The rest of his salary was paid for by another organization.

The lawsuit is against the LSU Board of Supervisors. If he wins, there will be some deciding on where the funds come from. While the media may seem to be hyping up the state to pay (what I heard on radio), LSU may be able to self-fund through donors and athletic budget. If the donors balk, it is going to get interesting. If it makes it to Board of Regents or legislative appropriation, essentially taxpayers are paying.

The actual state typically funds somewhere in the 250k range for any coach in any state. The rest is from the athletic department revenue/deals and outside sources.

GDP includes a lot of things that indicate you have poor people or your state is in major trouble. Any spending to clean up after a natural disaster. Add it to the GDP. If your state has a very old/unhealthy population that requires a lot of healthcare. Add it to the GDP. If your cities are crime riddled shitholes that require much more policing. Add it to the GDP. You have a lot of pollution that constantly needs federal funding to clean up. Add it to the GDP.
Just because you are spending money in a state does not mean you are making it better. Could just mean you are putting duct tape around your list of problems.
