That brave South Carolinian James Bonham rode for reinforcements before being this letter back to Commander Travis in the Alamo:

I got to see the Travis letter on special exhibit at the Alamo a year or two ago.
San Antonio is in the midst of a $550MM major renovation enlarging the plaza, closing the roadway permanently in front of the Alamo, from Houston Street to Commerce. There is also supposed to be a more thoughtful tie-in to the River Walk that is 2 blocks away.
This should have been done decades ago.
ETA: the building labeled “Chapel” is what many know as The Alamo.
