Pick your next SEC coach from these 4 finalists:
Coach A: 19 years college head coaching experience, 166-62, 72.8%, multiple BCS/playoff appearances, multiple national coach of the year awards, multiple top 10 finishes.
Coach B: 6 years college head coaching experience, 43-26-1, 62.3%, one T-1st Mid-American Conference title, 0-3 in bowl games
Coach C: 4 years college head coaching experience, 40-12, 76.9%, two time conference coach of the year, 4 (out of 4) 1st place division finishes, 2 conference titles
Coach D: 12 years college head coaching experience, 103-47, 68.7%, 2 division titles, one conference title, NY6 bowl win, 6-2 bowl record, 1 top 10 finish.
Which of these coaches would you hire if you had to pick one of them to coach your SEC football program?
ETA: just for fun, answer before you scroll down to see who each coach is and how he did.

Didn't read.... 99.9% chance the post is about love fest for bama and obsession for LSU.

And also you aren’t smart enough to figure out who fhe coaches are.
It is actually a love fest AND a hate fest for LSU.
But mostly it is just an example of how much of a crap shoot coaching hires can be.

Hint:
All of these were actual SEC coaches. The resumes listed were their resumes when they were hired by a SEC school. None are currently employed as coaches.

Must be Brian Kelly since it doesn’t have any conference titles (Notre Dame)
Dabo won the ACC basically every year

Coach A is Kelly. Coach D is James Franklin

A: Brian Kelly’s resume when LSU hired him
B: Nick Saban’s resume when LSU hired him.
C: Billy Napier’s resume when Florida hired him.
D: Hugh Freeze’ resume when Auburn hired him.

If you go by official records, Kelly was 141-62 because he had two season's worth of wins vacated.

I gave all coaches the benefit of vacated wins. Kelly, Freeze and Saban all had some/a lot of wins vacated from the official record book. That is also something that just looking at the numbers doesn’t show as well - character and/or leadership issues.
The interesting thing is that of the four based solely on numbers and accomplishments Nick Saban appeared to be the worst candidate.
I think it shows that situation and fit matter a lot. As does growth potential, i.e. has a coach reached their ceiling or is their room for them to improve.
The other thing it shows is that building a winning culture is more important than focusing on just winning individual football games. A lot of coaches get tunnel vision and focus on how to beat individual opponents week to week instead of teaching their players to just be good, steady fundamental football players.
That is why you see some (ahem, Hugh Freeze) coaches who will pull off a big upset win, and then turn around and lose head scratchers that completely “waste” those big wins.

Can I get a REAUX TIDE!!

i don't have stats so this is anecdotal or whatever, but aside from Nick Sabans rehab program for head coaches that don't coach good, the majority of fired college coaches do not succeed at other programs
there's an expansive list of re-fired coaches, and a very small list of programs happy with their re-treads
happy list
- lane kiffin (saban school)
- sarkisian (saban school)
- diaz
- im sure there's a very small list of additional coaches i missed to add here
the sad list is probably over 100 over the past 20 years , but it seems like whatever combination of fortuitous events they can't reproduce that gets them fired, leads them to getting fired again at the second level program
the odds are not good for anyone hiring jimbo , bk , or franklin
imo with the NIL world, its better to hire an up and comer, give them 3 years to see what they can do with sufficient funding, and golden handcuff them if they do well.
