BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - It perhaps seemed like an insurmountable financial task, but it appears LSU might be ready to move on from head football coach Brian Kelly.
Several national sports outlets report, and sources close to the situation tell WAFB-TV Sports that Kelly’s standing with the Tigers took a big turn for the worse following LSU’s 49-25 defeat to No. 3 Texas A&M in Tiger Stadium Saturday evening. Two competitive road losses at Ole Miss and Vanderbilt were one thing, but a national embarrassment and all of the optics that came with it were bad news for Kelly in his fourth season leading the program. An emergency meeting of the university’s higher-ups was held Sunday afternoon to discuss the impending move, sources confirm.
LSU is now in discussions and negotiations to move on from Kelly and the $54 million buyout they would owe him if he were fired. LSU obviously doesn’t want to pay that number in its entirety, hoping for a compromise from Kelly, who just turned 64 years old Saturday.
Kelly’s record at LSU is 34-14 overall with a 19-10 mark in SEC play.

LSU really is a dumpster fire. They are giving Auburn a run for its (buy-out) money.

LSU will pay the entire buyout or Kelly is a moron

Firing Kelly is going to cost a whole lot more than just his buy-out.

It’s common to negotiate a buyout amount. Doesn’t make anyone a moron.

I thought the buyout was all $54M at once but at $10M / year that's at least manageable so I cannot see why BK would accept anything less. He can go further into the tank and empty the stands and just say "pay me or piss off"

He has no need to negotiate. He holds all the cards because of the way his contract is structured

Not saying the dude doesn’t deserve it, but jumping into the frying pan and into the fire with how may other schools looking for coaches seems risky.

He comes off as very arrogant. I doubt he would move an inch on his buy-out.

He may take less to get paid sooner. There are a lot of reasons to negotiate a buyout.

Exactly what Mack Brown did. I'm here for it.

Yeah it does. Sure he could retire on far less, anyone could but when its guaranteed to be X amount if youre fired you shouldn't give someone kicking you to the curb any discount

If LSU offers BK $40 mil paid immediately I can see leaving the other $14 mil on the table.

I could see him negotiating on it sum, especially if there is a way to structure it were he avoids taxes. I am not an accountant.

He does if he wants out and by the look on his face he wants out.

I'm sure that's what happened

Dumb and Dumber.
I still maintain that long term coaching contracts are going to go the way of the 8 track stereo. Schools are not going to sink that much money into a HC contract anymore.
What is the point?
$54 million would pay for two-three years worth of players in the current dynamic.

No, it’s paid over the remaining years of his contract (6 years) and offset by future earnings. They’re prob negotiating a reduced lump sum if I had to guess
