On Germie's late TD am I the only that thinks that USCe DB simply quit on the play?

I told my wife right when the play happened "that DB tanked that play, he could have clearly pushed Germie out of bounds."

He just threw his hands up and stopped trying to pursue.

He was clearly told to let Bama score if there was a first down so USC could get the ball back and at least attempt to tie it up.

I had two guys point that out to me as well. It was definitely weird IDK what he was thinking

Looks like the DB thought he already stepped out of bounds.

I think they were coached to let the ball carrier go. They were probably glad to see us go for a big play than run up the gut, fall over, and call TO with 3 seconds remaining.

Beamer said in his post game presser that he told his defense to let us score if we got the first down. Dumbass. Our kicker is not reliable.

Worse than that decision, imo, was not going for two after their last TD. A 9 point lead would have been huge. I thought for sure they would go for it. Dumbass.

It's a good idea except in our instance where our FG kicker is not exactly automatic. They would have been better off making us kick it from that tough far right angle.

Talty hasn't missed inside 40 yards this season. He is very reliable on chip shots.

Clearly let him score, which I am not sure the idea behind that since our kicker is more likely to miss imo

Talty is something like 36 of 36 inside of 40 yards including extra points which is basically what the kick would have been if Germie goes out of bounds.

He was told to let score. Beamer mentioned it in his presser

I question whether some of yall even watch the games. Talty has shanked one kicked.

He’s not missed inside of 40, right down the pipe on his extra points, and this all in his first year.

This narrative that he is Cade Foster 2.0 is simply silly at this point.

I don't think anyone is coming down on the kicker or saying he's bad. But the better option for them was us missing the kick as opposed to having to drive 80 yards in less than a minute and scoring a TD.

He's Jeremy Shelley 2.0. Very reliable inside 40, but you can't count on him past that. I'd agree with everyone saying Beamer should have tried to force us to kick it if we're talking like a 35-45 yard angled kick, but Germie would have gone out around the 10-12 and we still had timeouts left to center the ball for a glorified PAT. There's no good choice there for Beamer, but he'd have been fricking crucified if he had played it so that we kicked a 27 yard game winner as time expired.

Jesse acted like that was the right coaching. Bizarre mindset in college

Our kicker is utterly reliable. He’s perfect on PATs and inside 40 yards. Anything beyond 45 he’s pretty much a lock to miss.

I’m glad Bama scored the TD, but Talty from the 10 with the ball centered was an almost guaranteed walk off win.

Agreed. However, college kicking is always a bit of an adventure it seems. So I can't argue with scoring, going up 7, and forcing a team with a bad OL to execute a 30-second offense to setup a hail mary attempt with no timeouts.

I wouldn’t hav been from an angle. We had a first down, plenty of clock, and a timeout left. We would have centered the ball for a straight on kick inside 40 - a kick that Talty hasn’t missed in his entire college career.
