I think these steps were needed. It's good that they are taking this seriously.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - LSU officials and Baton Rouge-area law enforcement provided an update on gameday and campus security during a news conference on Thursday, Oct. 16.

According to the Interim President Matt Lee, the changes include closing off Unity Field during game days for the remainder of the football season and blocking vehicle access to Highland Road without a pass.

He explained that officials believe recent shootings that happened near campus occurred in this area.

LSU will also reportedly crack down on disorderly conduct and firearms on campus. This includes smoking marijuana, and anyone found in violation will be detained if caught.

Officials said they will also bring in new technology to look for specific behavior and alert authorities in real time.

This update comes days after Gov. Jeff Landry ordered the Louisiana State Police to work with the LSU Police Department, the Baton Rouge Police Department, and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office to develop an enhanced security plan for LSU’s next home game.

On Saturday, two people were shot on Highland Road near LSU’s campus during the Tigers’ homecoming celebration. A 16-year-old is accused of shooting the 18-year-old and 19-year-old victims.

In a separate shooting, a man reportedly shot himself in the leg near the ROTC building an hour before the game.

On Sept. 13, a car was also reportedly shot after a fight broke out near the LSU Law Center.

At the end of the day, keeping everyone as safe as possible is the most important thing. I’m glad the school is taking this seriously and being proactive.

Nothing new just a typical 3rd world country inner city fueled by alcohol and drugs. Been like that in Baton Rouge for 100 years.

If only we could outlaw driving in Athens or sodomy in College Station the whole league would be a safer place.

I pulled LSU up on Google Earth Pro (Stadium is empty - must be the 3rd quarter ) . Someone with familiarity with the campus lead me to the point we are talking about. TIA

Say what you will, but the issue comes from people with no affiliation to LSU.

It’s even lower than that data point. That group can be broken down to males ages 16-35 on average commit about 45 percent of the crime. And that specific age group makes up approximately 6% of the general population. So 6 percent of the general population commits nearly half of the violent crimes in America. Truly staggering

Because they have been taught, since birth, to blame the wrong people.

That's what I heard on our local news up here. Mostly thugs that probably didn't even finish high school. I was just trying to get a feel for the area that they are closing to keep the riff raff in Tuscaloosa (sarcasm/)

At least the criminals arent actually on the football team, unlike a certain school.

I can’t even get mad at the youth anymore. I know the “parents” failed miserably

You aren't allowed to discuss it. That's racist.

It was bad...I live in the Shreveport area and have not been to a game since 2018 or so. Took my young son to his first game last Saturday, and we felt very out of place walking around...never felt like that at LSU before. Then a thug accidentally shoots himself in the leg 10 feet from our tailgate.

Won't be back anytime soon until they get that cleaned up. Hopefully, their new plan works.
