According to at least one source, they are:
“I have been told that Adidas drove the James Franklin firing and are why it happened today,” Asti was told by a Penn State source. “They committed to pay most or all of the money. They also wanted a new coach before recent losses, but they made it hard for anyone at PSU to argue.”
LINK
Both Penn State and Adidas are denying the report; however, if this is true, and sportswear companies are going to start deciding who coaches our football teams, we are in deep shite.

Why does Addidas need Penn State to be good?
It isn't their only school.

Their deal doesn’t start until 2026. Do you honestly think a new coach would increase how much gear get sold? A new coach is a complete total unknown and I doubt the higher anyone that gives him a massive spike in merchandise sales..

I don’t know how much winning it would take to make that stench go away…

If true, this makes me wonder if Adidas might be a member of the PE Group that is infusing $2 billion into the B1G, or affiliated with a member of the PE Group.
It's also possible that Penn State is just carving out a portion of the new Adidas contract that starts next year, and using that as an excuse when Adidas didn't really have anything to do with the deal.

quote:No one pays attention to who sponsors who except for the UA guy at Maryland and the Nike guy at Oregon. We are Adidas and they only complain about the size of Lebby's smock. Same with A&M.

Jesus yall believe anything.
4 really pissed off PSU boosters wrote Franklin checks totaling about 40 million. They did not want a buyout payout impeding the hiring process.
Franklin chose the lump sum over a payout.
