If by some chance he gets approached for the job, Penn State will be denied. And here’s why:

1) Happy Valley is not a Happy place compared to Nashville.
2) They owe Franklin a 50 million buyout. Vandy can and will outbid them.
3) It’s harder to recruit in the Northeast, and the NIL has somewhat evened the field for Vandy.
4) Clark graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy High School and Vanderbilt. He is a local boy.
5) Who needs the pressure PSU will put on a coach? They just fired a great coach who temporarily slipped up.
6) Big 10 is boring compared to the fireworks of the SEC

Let the Rant commence!

Your sixth point has no bearing on whether or not Penn State hires Clark Lea. But everything else? Sure. Does it matter? If he left, Vandy will find another solid coach

Penn State isn’t what it used to be. It’s a weird - very weird - culty, strange fan base filled with Pennsylvania and Rust Belt trash. The recruiting in Pennsylvania ain’t whatnot used to be - a lot of the PA trash has, unfortunately, moved south.

I honestly hope he would stay if offered that job. What he is doing at Vandy is awesome. I don’t know the politics at Vandy, but do you really think they’d fork over huge $? Someone was saying PSU has some very deep pockets; I know Lea is a Nashville guy, but if the number gets crazy, then you have to at least listen.

Vandy has a 10 billion dollar endowment. I know that cannot be used in athletics, but it is a reflection of deep pockets. 11 years ago Franklin was offered 5 million to stay. At the time, that was a very generous offer.

Vandy isn't a destination job. Easy as that

I think there’s a 1% chance Lea would take the Penn State job if offered. He has a great thing going at his Alma mater. Money isn’t every thing in life, especially if you’re already making $5 mil+ at the school and live in the city you love.

This is the best logical explanation of the bunch

I’m well aware Vandy has some wealthy alums and donors. The question is are they willing to not only pony up for the coaching staff, but also go big in NIL. If the Adidas thing is true, I’m assuming Penn State has assurances from them beyond just buyout money.

Might as well get that payday after the Mexican leaves.

It all depends on his career ambitions.

His record at Vandy is
2-10
5-7
2-10
7-6
And 5-1 this year.

9-27 without Jerry Kill and Deigo Pavia.

He loses Pavia this year and Kill’s health problems are always a threat to force him out again.

If Lea wants a shot at a bigger program, he may not get a better chance than he’ll have this year.

You'd have to have a serious commitment on NIL dollars to make the place work.

Should hire Jerry Kill before Lea.

Jerry Kill may be our generations most underrated football coach.

Very true. Vandy was struggling before Jerry Kill and Tim Beck arrived. If Lea leaves, I would promote Tim Beck and head coach and keep Kill is his current consultant role. Kill, if you remember has health issues and maybe as a consultant he could focus more on his own well being

Jerry Kill is a very good football coach. He actually had Minnesota winning 8 and 9 games about ten years ago. And that’s not an easy place to win. But he had a stroke and he was out of football all for a couple of seasons. Underrated for certain

Kill is an incredibly talented coach. It’s a shame it appears his health just won’t let him be a head coach.

Lea better get the pot of gold while he can. Vandy is not a job you can consistently win at.Hes a 2-10 year away from being fired and it will happen.
