Such an awesome schedule.

So how good should we be this year? Compared to last year?
I don’t follow basketball outside of watching the games so don’t know much about the new guys we brought in

Potential for top 4 of the conference regular season and elite 8- final four in the tourney.

I should clarify potential based on talent and experience.
While this is the first time in a while there is a core group returning of players with experience, the roster is still one of the youngest in the SEC.

Ceiling is a national title. Floor is 2nd round exit.
Knox and Acuff Jr both have lottery pick mocks, and Thomas is mid 20's. Between draftnet and tankathon we are the only team with multiple projected lottery picks. Duke and Houston are close with their 2nd picks taken at 18 and 19.
Those teams also tie us for the lead with 3 projected first rounders.
Wagner has supposedly been the most improved player this offseason into practice, taking his game to another level.

Wagner
Best pick and roll guard we have.
If he could give us 12-15 ppg, I don't see us losing many games.

Just going by Cal's comments - last year he was sort of hesitant about hyping up the team, warned it could be a slow start.
This year there doesn't seem to be any of that. And he's scheduled like he has a team he's not afraid of playing anyone with.

Torvik preseason projection has us at #16, #4 in the SEC
21-10 (11-7)
Means very little but I mean what else do we have to go on. Last year we were projected #87. Kentucky was also projected to finish with a losing record last year so...
If you want something even less meaningful, we are #12 in ESPN's preseason rankings.
KenPom should be out in a week or so which is the most highly thought of. The last 23 champions were all in the preseason kenpom top 25

None of that stuff means anything.
This was Florida last preseason. They won the natty.
Florida was 28 last year so that can't be correct.

Florida ranks outside the projected top 25 of both Pomeroy's and Bart Torvik's statistical systems, and was just 62nd in 247sports' composite ranking of talent added through recruiting and the portal.

Yeah that Florida team coming into the year pretty much everyone and every metric preseason had them as a very average early exit NCAAT team just outside the top 25. Just goes to show preseason stuff is incredibly meaningless.

Crazy how underrated that team was, maybe ended up a top 10 all time team.
Still KenPom had them #28 so it picked up on something relative to the pure metrics stuff out there

Someone bookmark this so we can all laugh at me together when we make the Final 4 and our shooting is fine but I continue to be very worried about our shooting. Last year, we were 230th in the country in 3pt %, hitting 235 out of 706. 151 out of those 235 makes belong to people no longer on the team. How about transfers? We transferred in 0 career collegiate made 3 point baskets between Ewin and Pringle. And look, maybe Acuff and Thomas will be great shooters. Maybe DJ and Karter will really have grown year over year. But I’m concerned about it and really wish we would have brought in a sniper through the portal.

It's a fair concern. I think Knox and TB will hit more 3s this year. Meleek I could see having games where he gets hot from 3.

Wagner and Knox both started shooting well at the end of the year, and Davis finally came on as well. Season long stats are pretty irrelevant all about development and how you play at the right time.

Also no matter how well you shoot, the 3 ball can fail on any team at any given time. Not great for a sport you have to win 6 in a row to win a title.

23 of the last 23 champs were top 30 kenpom

Every champion since 1979 has had at least one McDonald's all American on the roster.
