Jam was moving like an elite RB.

You can see the skill level gap between him and the rest of the RBs.

If Jam moves like all season we will be hard to beat.

Absolutely changes the dynamic of the offense.

Agreed he sees the cutbacks and follows the pulling blocks well. Riley is going to be great once he gets some field vision. He has too many carries where he’s not really seeing how the blocks are going to setup and ends up just running into a linemen he was trailing behind.

That was some of the worst vision I’ve ever seen from a Bama RB going back to the Shula era.

He can’t see the field until that’s fixed.

The running game was borderline nonfunctional with Riley (3.4YPC) and very good to elite with Jam (6.2YPC on 22 attempts).

Riley is young and will improve, but he didn’t look like someone who should be on the field for a top 10 team Saturday.

Riley is playing like Terry Grant with better hamstrings.

He's good in space, but he's still bouncing a lot outside like a HS RB would thinking he's still the best athlete on the field.

He's good in the pass game because you can scheme that space for him. IIRC he already has almost as many catches as Jam did all last season.

Yea, Riley catches it like a WR and runs pretty hard for his size, but he's a lot better on the perimeter than he is sifting through traffic inside

That might be true, but an elite HS RB would’ve seen the cutback lanes and exploded 2-3 times Saturday for huge gains or TDs.

Vision for a RB is like accuracy for a QB, it can improve but it’s hard to coach up.

Valuable in pass pro, too.

There was one very frustrating thing watching the RBs the first few games. The inability to find lanes or cutting back

Jam did that very well Saturday

Where is AK Dear? He looked the best of all the RBs in his limited action. He's the only one who actually has homerun speed. 5-star recruit. I'm sure we're paying him a pretty penny. Yet he's the only back who hasn't really gotten a chance, and the only back who was never mentioned once in camp.

So weird, because from a raw talent standpoint, he's probably our best back.

I think the coaching staff outside of QB has shown that they'll play the best talent regardless of seniority.

Hell Riley is a TF himself. If Dear were tearing it up in practice and could handle pass pro he'd be out there.

I truly wouldn't mind seeing Dear get some chances, but if we are being honest, only Miller, Riley and Young have gotten a good opportunity in games. Dear, Hill, and Washington all have gotten roughly the same number of touches.

Dear needs to just stick with it and I think he could see the field. You just aren't playing in a pass heavy attack if you can't hold your own in pass protection. Miller and Riley are our two best backs in pass protection so they get the opportunities for carries.

Young outright loafed at times in the FSU game. He's probably done in Tuscaloosa barring an attitude adjustment. So, nothing but opportunity for Dear if he can just keep on using practice to hone himself.

Hill reminds me of Jalston Fowler in that he doesn't really have a natural home in a single back offense. Similar to Fowler, I think he's a good ball player but its going to be hard to find the place for him on the field since we are plenty good at H-B with TE body types.

I think because he was so highly rated a lot of people have been infatuated with Richard Young and thinking he was going to be a dude. I'll be honest, I never saw it with him. Speed is adequate but nothing special, and he runs upright and looks very robotic, not fluid.

By a similar token, you can tell that Dear got the juice in limited action. He'll get his time to shine. Would love to see it in 2025 but I'm betting on 2026 once Jam graduates.

I agree, and if he sticks with it there may develop a need before this year is out. Knock on wood, but RB is a spot where it can be tough to keep guys healthy over the course of a season.

But it was against Vandy, Pawl !

/sarcasm

He did look very good. He wanted the rock... I was just glad he didn't get re-injured.

He runs hard and is great in pass protection. Like I said in another thread, he reminds me of Mark Ingram. I'm not saying he's gonna rush for 1,700 yards and 20 touchdowns, but he will help alleviate Ty Simpson a bit. We're going to need him.

Vandy was a top 15 defense coming into our game.
