Maybe they run all over us, but if it takes putting a corner standing on the boundary next to each sidelines, contain the edge!

The whole not setting the edge/losing contain drives me crazy. Such a basic concept in football that’s taught at the HS JV level and for whatever reason, KW just doesn’t seem to get it.

Don’t care if he has to send 8 on certain plays, do not let them get 4-5 yards every rush. If they beat us on 1:1s over the top, so be it. At least their defense has to go right back on the field and hopefully we can control the ball in the 4th quarter.

You're going to get us not making contact until they're three yards past the LOS and also leaving all receivers open AND YOU'RE GOING TO LIKE IT.

I expect us to play bend but don't break defense and everyone is frustrated.

They had 10 runs of 4yds or more in the first half alone last year, 5 on the opening drive (several in the 7-8 yd range where getting a 2-3 yd rush on the next 2 plays still gets you the first down). People look at the game stats and the yards per carry from last year (impacted by a bunch of 1-2 yd rushes and negative plays) and think we did a good job stopping the run and lost due to the pass. It’s way more detailed than that, and we didn’t really stop either last year.
They’re better and even more physical this year. If KW wants to play straight up for a couple first downs to see if it works, that’s fine. But you can’t let our already banged up front 7 just get physically dominated in the run game and expect to win. If that starts happening, you have to play press coverage and tell them to be handsy on 1st down and 2nd & mid/short. Who cares if you get a hold or PI in that instance if your front 7 is getting gashed (never do it on 3rd and mid/long obviously).
