Your soul brother not mine. Be sure to wear a T shirt and shorts when you die, I hear it’s really hot down there

He will rise from the grave (his mom's basement) if Vandy wins this weekend.

Some Gumps kidnapped him from a hole in the wall dive bar and they are forcing his eyes open to watch two tvs- one showing Bama beating UGA and the other showing the Rebs beating LSU. Pure torture

I know you were kidding but I used to really really love when people used to ask me how my father was doing all the time and I would have to say he is dead.

My favorite time when when a professor at Ole Miss was going down the role and he sees my name and stops calling the role and ask me in front of a full classroom is “GW your father?” I reply Yes Sir, and then goes on for 2 to 3 minutes to tell the class how they were friends, GAs, and classmates together and how smart my father was and if I am anything like him he is sure I will do well. And then ask how is your father doing? To which I reply, he died last year Sir.

You could see the shock and horror on his face and hear a pin drop. (My father was 39) I changed majors the next week.

You could have parlayed that into an easy A.

I thought he was only in the heads of Bama fans, but it looks like he's baked your brain too.

Hell they are all retired or dead now.

It was Dr. James Davis. He was eventually dean at the accounting school. He was so embarrassed. The funny thing is that he spoke as if he and my father were old friends but to hear my dad talk about it they were really more rivals for Dr. Gene Peery’s attention, but I know my dad had tremendous respect for “Jimmy” ( Joe Traigle, I think was really my dads good friend at Ole Miss) My dad went to Law School and Jimmy became the heir apparent to Dr Peery, by default.

Of course, I had to go tell Dr Peery, and he had made me take Acct 201-202 as a freshman and then 303-304 as a sophomore and he was heart broken, and I bet blamed Dr Davis for this.

But truthfully, I looked around the class and saw one girl and one guy I could have a drink with and the rest looked like a bad version of revenge of the nerds.( We would say now they were all on the spectrum.) I remember each of us looking at each other and I guess we were all thinking the same thing, as Dr Peery Quipped as he signed my transfer papers, “There were only 3 students in your class that could possibly ever amount to shite and damn if all 3 of you don’t quit the same damn week. “ May have been some GDs in there. The only reason I stayed that long because of the respect and admiration I had for him. (He also knew immediately when my dad died, and was always there for me, even after I left the accounting school. ) He made Ole Miss Accounting Great to steal a term.

Anyway as you get older you learn to be careful asking that in jest as often the answer is yes, we missed you at the funeral.
