You have an entire off season, and then the past week to script three plays to get a first down and we consistently look like a 3 ring circus (no wait there is actually organization to that), we look like chickens with our heads cut off.

Opponent gets the ball, runs scripted plays right down the field and score. Our Defense makes adjustments but our offense comes out and does the same nonsense over and over again.

Charlie 5, Blackerby, and Dapprich had a good discussion on the Barn podcast last night about the process of calling plays…basically that Freeze can’t be in the offensive meetings during the week for obvious reasons, so when Austin and Nix throw in a wrinkle into the game plan or if the defense gives them a certain look and they need to check to something that may not have been on the call sheet and it doesn’t get explicitly communicated to a Freeze and we have problems. Their contention (and I would agree) is that it is nearly impossible for a HC in the NIL/Portal era to be the OC.

Couple that with Jackson not being about to see the field and you’re seeing the discombobulation on the field.

Sorry, you don’t know enough to make that claim. Speculation, nothing more.

I don't even know what the frick we're trying to accomplish offensively. I know the goal is to score points but the rhyme and reasoning for the play calling isn't making sense to me. It's like we're just randomly picking plays to run out of a hat and hoping they work

And there is no adjusting. Double team Cam? Then throw to the TE or slot. Are they aggressive on taking away the run? Try a screen.

Does anyone know what the quality control staff situation is at AU? Serious programs have teams of analysts looking for any tendencies displayed by opponents and (probably more importantly) their own team.

AU just seems to wing it like high school or lower level college football.

We have 3 play callers. What does that tell you?

This is one of many problems, but a significant one. On every pass play, I pray Arnold throws to his first option quickly, even if it's just heaving it up to a receiver without making any reads. These at least have a chance of an on-time completion. Otherwise, he basically just holds the ball until the protection breaks down, or he may run out of a still clean'ish pocket because he gets antsy. But for whatever reason, Arnold either cannot see the field or get's paralyzed and cannot cut the ball loose. I personally think he's toast and we should use these 2 weeks the get the next man up ready to play. I do not think we can win with Arnold.

At this point, I am convinced that Freeze is coaching to be fired and get his buyout. Crazy as a fox. Knew the PTB were infamous for hiring and firing football coaches after giving big contracts. He probably came up with his retirement plan about 4 years ago, right after beating Arky in their house with a Liberty team. Only logical explanation.

I swear, Perry was wide open almost the entire game. They didn’t even bother covering him unless he ran a go route. They basically said, we’ll just double Cam and Singleton and we’re good.

Jville,

One of my favorite QB stories. Madden said of all the QBs, if the game was on the line Snake Stabler. He said if we were up 3 tds he would call a play and forget it when he got to the line. But if it was tight......

We are on MNight and have to win to get to the playoffs, we were down by 18, Snake drives twice for TDs, less than 2 minutes and we are driving again, he calls a timeout and I run up to him to see what he thinks, he says "man these folks are sure gettin their money's worth". Then just laughs and says, I have thrown a hook route to Branch twice and that safety is just salivating I try it again, Im gonna pump it, he will run a hook and go and an easy toss for a TD.....I just wanted you to be the first to know.

He went out, threw the TD, looked over at me and pointed a finger and smiled......

Back to reality, I have no idea why we even have people in the box or headsets if we dont use them, I too saw Perry standing alone more than once, very alone.

Yep. Can’t put that all on Arnold. The coaching staff should be screaming into Arnold’s ear, take the snap, look at Coleman, then turn and throw to Perry who will be standing alone for a big gainer.

Get over the myth. One voice on the Mike in the helmet, nothing more. QB doesn’t listen to a debate.
