Greetings everyone. There's no shortage of great teams and national championship teams the Sooners have played through the years. Which team was the best to ever beat Oklahoma? If LSU 2019 is the overwhelming choice, which team was the second best ever to beat Oklahoma?

Texas 1969
Nebraska 1970
Texas 1970
Nebraska 1971
Texas 1977
Nebraska 1982
Nebraska 1983
Miami 1986
Miami 1987
Colorado 1989
Colorado 1990
Nebraska 1993
Nebraska 1994
Washington 1994
Nebraska 1995
Nebraska 1997
LSU 2003
USC 2004
Texas 2005
Florida 2008
Texas 2009
Oklahoma State 2011
Notre Dame 2012
Clemson 2015
Ohio State 2016

I kind of lean into those losses to Miami as both of them cost Oklahoma a title which means they beat really good versions of the Sooners.

I notice SEC fans regard that 1995 Nebraska as one of the best teams ever. Can't say I disagree but OU was in such bad shape at that time and historically owned the Huskers so I * may * have blocked that season out for self-protection reasons..

I agree with JacieNY, that 1987 Sooners team was one of our best ever and Miami beat us for the NC, 20-14. That Miami defense was just ridiculous and honestly, that game was the beginning of the end of triple-option football at OU. Of course we didn't play their 2001 team which is among the best teams ever.

I'd say that 2018 Orange Bowl CFP game vs. eventual champ Alabama could be up there in the discussion. That game was over at halftime but then the Tide got steamrolled by that Clemson team. God, I'm glad Clemson is back in their rightful place.

So about that 2004 title game vs. USC.. that was probably our worst beating in a title game. That team was stacked, they punched us in the mouth early and we folded, plain & simple. Our QB lost his mind. USC held Adrian Peterson to 82 yards. That was soooo hard to watch. We dubbed it "The game of which we do not discuss." That USC team was really good.

The thing about 2019 LSU people tend to overlook was their defense. We tried to establish the run but they completely stonewalled us. I wouldn't say they were the 'overwhelming' choice, but they are top 3 for sure.

My top 3 in no particular order: 1987 Miami, 2019 LSU, 1995 Nebraska.

Good choices, but 2004 USC was bad. That USC team could have beaten any of those other 3. Or lost, but they were as good.

I still think USC 2004 gets the edge over LSU 2019

I am not sold on the 2004 USC team being the best we've ever lost to. We stop them then drive the ball right down the field for a score, held them to 3 and out, then once Bradley muffed the punt, the wheels came off.

That's why I didn't list it top 3. No doubt 2004 USC was a very, very good team but we self-destructed in such embarrassing fashion, it's hard to gauge how good USC was. 5 ridiculous turnovers.. just went brain-dead.

They had some great players on that team, but so did OU. That Groetegood (sp) linebacker they had may have been the best player on that team.

1995 Nebraska for me as they are the GOAT, imo.

I would say the ‘86 and ‘87 Miami teams. We went 30-3 from ‘85-87 and all three losses were to them. We won the NC in 85, our lone loss was to Miami in the last game Troy Aikman played for us as he broke his leg in the first half.

Troy Aikman played for us as Jerome Brown broke his leg in the first half.
