Brian Kelly responds to Billy Napier hot seat, defends him as Florida's hea coach
How soft is the University of LSU's head coach? Not only is he trying to be a Dabo style cornpone every chance he gets, but he's essentially telegraphing to corndogs (who can read) that they are heading for another letdown.

I know these guys are making huge money and all have golden parachutes, but coaching is a tough profession. It’s a zero-sum profession. Coach Smith can only be successful at the expense of Coach Jones. They can’t all be winners even if every program in the SEC had a Nick Saban clone. Because of this, most coaches are sympathetic towards those who are on the hot seat unless there’s some bad blood. Few coaches go through a career without at least knowing what the hot seat feels like - and many great coaches have been fired.
Wise coaches are also hesitant to be unnecessarily critical of others or burn bridges. It’s not far from the penthouse to the outhouse, and you never know when you might need a job or want someone’s insight into an opponent. It’s helpful to have good relationships in those times.

Exactly. And to add, a really shrewd (smart) coach will talk up a mediocre opposing coach because you don’t want him going anywhere.
Further, shitting on an opposing team will only make your own performance look less impressive no matter the outcome.
