As the SEC race approaches, so does the SEC QB race. Some SEC passers have yet to face a quality opponent. Others have delved into the fire in the season's first two weeks. Here's a rundown on how the SEC's passers stand after Week 2.

16. Zach Calzada, Kentucky
He has the SEC's worst QB stats by a mile- 47% completions, 4.4 yards per throw, no passing touchdowns. He's probably sitting this week behind Cutter Boley, who can't help but be a bit better.

15. Austin Simmons, Ole Miss
He's an impressive young passer, but Simmons has now thrown a pair of interceptions in each of his first two games. No other SEC passer has thrown more than two picks total.

14. DJ Lagway, Florida
Yes, this feels a bit insane, but Florida is 1-1 and Lagway had very ho-hum numbers in Week 2. 6.7 yards per pass attempt is fairly ridiculous for a passer with this much arm strength.

13. LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina
Again, he won't stay here. But he's not been his sharpest to start the season. He has hit 61% of his passes for 338 yards in two games. He's capable of more.

12. Gunner Stockton, Georgia
He hasn't needed to do anything. He's completing 69% of his passes and hasn't thrown a pick, but 7.2 yards per throw isn't brilliant for the mediocre competition he's seen.

11. Blake Shapen, Mississippi State
Big win in Week 2 over Arizona State bumps him up. Shapen has been steady so far, with 551 passing yards and four scores against one interception.

10. Ty Simpson, Alabama
Simpson has been fine, but is 1-1. The problem isn't really him-- he's got 480 yards and five touchdowns with no picks.

9. Jackson Arnold, Auburn
After running all over the place in Week 1, Arnold passed all over the place in Week 2. A solid start with three scores passing and two rushing.

8. Marcel Reed, Texas A&M
Good stats, but do they mean much? Reed has 509 yards and seven scores, but better competition will define where he belongs.

7. Garrett Nussmeier, LSU
Yes, he won the biggest victory yet by the SEC. But the numbers aren't great. He's next to last in the SEC in QB rating and is picking up just 5.9 yards per pass attempt. He'll get sharper and move up.

6. Arch Manning, Texas
Yes, it's quite a fall, but that ugly Week 1 is still sticking in the mind. A nice bounceback game helped, but he's got work to do to get back toward the top.

5. Joey Aguilar, Tennessee
Aguilar has thrown for 535 yards and five touchdowns. He was a question mark, but now has Tennessee fans considering an upset of Georgia.

4. Taylen Green, Arkansas
Yes, Arkansas has played nobody. But Green already had 561 passing yards and10 touchdowns. He's leading the SEC in QB rating and probably does belong in the league's top half when the dust settles.

3. Beau Pribula, Missouri
For a passer who won the full-time QB job due to injury during Week 1, Pribula has been outstanding. His 617 passing yards are second in the SEC and he was impressive in Missouri's comeback win over Kansas.

2. Diego Pavia, Vanderbilt
Pavia has Vandy at 2-0 and his 10.9 yards per pass attempt is best in the SEC. He's second in the leagu in QB rating.

1. John Mateer, Oklahoma
He won the biggest game of the week and has become a phenomenon. Mateer's 662 passing yards lead the SEC. His dual-threat game is exciting and impressive. He's the flavor of the week thanks to Oklahoma's big win, but he might end up being the flavor of a good many weeks.

I imagine Ty is going to end the season above 10. That fricking FSU loss is going to hang around our necks until we finally get to walk into Athens and knock off Gunner’s stupid arse.

Mateer is my way too early pick to win the Heisman. HIs games is better suited to put up the proper stats.

Their SEC schedule is brutal though so that could go south real quick.

I’m a Longhorn fan, but Oklahoma once again did something more teams should do. They went out and grabbed a proven commodity. John Mateer was awesome against Michigan. I believe Oklahoma is good enough on both sides of the ball to take the SEC this year; however, they do have a tough schedule. Will hate to see the Horns lose to them, but that is why we play the game. No one knows.

All that Mateer and Oklahoma have done is beat a 7 to 8 win at best one dimensional Michigan team and everyone here is declaring them the Superbowl champs like with LSU the week before.

He looks great so far but I'll wait before annointing him because he's about to face real competition that actually have functional QBs soon.

Michigan 's freshman QB plays like your average freshman. Shocker.

I'm impressed with the top five so far. Bobby Petrino will get a lot of production out of Taylen Green this year. Mateer is the golden boy so far.

I was thinking the same thing and someone on unnecessary roughness last night said the same. A lot of this is because it was the only game in town worth a damn last week and he had a big stage.

That Michigan team is the definition of average. They were replacing a ton of talent and had an 18-year-old quarterback and lost 3 defensive starters during the game(plus their best player was suspended the first half).

They play at Nebraska and at USC in the next 3 weeks and I expect them to be 2-3.

I’ve heard many people say it was a huge win because they beat a blue blood. Lol.

I listened to a Michigan pod on Monday and they fully expect to be a rebuild year. It’s a 6-6/7-5 team but people are acting like they beat 2019 LSU or 2020 Bama

And Taylen has only played 3 quarters in both of our games.

I’m happy for Arkansas fans they have hope and a good QB. I think they could destroy some teams dreams this year.

As a parent of a college student, OU would reciprocate with New Mexico, Arkansas, Colorado , Missouri and Kansas on in-state tuition+/- 5%. All the states that border Oklahoma, except ...

Texas.

Both states refuse to reciprocate with each other. In Oklahoma, that means an extra $17k-$18k per year in you go there from Texas, and there's a lot of DFW area students that go there because they were not in the top 5% of their class, which are now primarily eastern Asians and Dots. Nobody wants to go to TAMU and and that cult weirdness, so they go to OU or TCU or SMU. And unless you want a geology and petroleum engineering degree, nobody wants to go out the way out to Lubbock.

Oklahoma used to have it with Texas, Texas never has had it as they don’t need to.

I deal with hundreds of kids in Collin County and Arkansas is the new flavor of the month. They are giving up to 90% off out of state with GPA and test scores. We have some family up there so I wouldn’t be upset if my kid picked Arkansas. Beautiful area and easy drive and much more to do. Especially in today’s age just get a damn degree. The Dave Ramsey in me can’t comprehend paying out of state for a public education. It’s over six figures just in extra tuition over 4 years that could be invested and make 8-10% a year.

Almost every kid applies to Texas and A&M but nobody is getting in Texas these days and A&M isn’t far behind. Those are tier 1 top 30 schools in the country.

They all get into OU and Arkansas so that’s their backup plan, along with Tech and Texas State. The enrollment of those schools are way up. Texas state had over 60,000 applicants and it’s their largest enrollment ever at 44,500 students.

Mateer and Nuss need to be one and two with Mateer being #1 right now. He looked great against Michigan and is going to give every defense he faces fits. I think Nuss will be fine. I expected a drop off game after coming off the big road win at Clemson. You could see that game coming a mile away.

Let me just say, OU changed my daughter in a big way. She went in unsure of herself and future direction. She came out at near the top of her class, cum laude, won multiple business competitions and landed a covered position at a major commercial real estate investment firm as a financial analyst. In addition, she came out of OU without the baggage of liberal enlightenment, and she still plays guitar and sings in church every Sunday. We had considered Arkansas, as what you said is correct. It's beautiful there, but when it came to my son, he was accepted into the mechanical engineering program at UT-Arlington where he is involved in their F1 Formula Car program as both an engineer and mechanic, but with his track experience in autocross, he gets the opportunity to drive in completion against other universities after a couple of seniors graduate. He already qualified to transfer to UT in Austin, but needs to get this year in, and have the academic score he needs to be accepted into the engineering college, which is highly competitive, but he knows the degree from there will be much higher value to him later, and they have the same F1 Formula Car program.

I don't think Michigan is some powerhouse, but they don't play another ranked team until the Buckeyes. They are going to win a lot of games which wil certainly help OUs resume. It was just the first test, OU passed it.

I was surprised at the atmosphere there this weekend. Oklahoma really is an SEC worthy program.

They will be underdogs at Nebraska and USC. I think it’s a 7-5 team at best.

Put them in the SEC, where would they be ranked? I wouldn’t have them in the top 10. Vandy would beat them
