Especially across the Oline and backs as it pertains to blocking assignments. Gunner further get on the same page as his Wrs and further find a dependable safety valve for when he has to scramble.

On defense I want to see overwhelming violence.

What do you guys want to see

I want to see more down field passes completed.

I would like to see more 3 WR sets with Young, Branch, and Thomas.

Want to see Thomas targeted 6-7 times.

Liked the gap scheme runs and would like to see more.

Can we wait until Tennessee to pull this out?

Certainly. But in many cases you show it to set them up and run deviations of it versus the balance of our opponents.

The greatest set up I ever remember was Shockley with that short z hitch we ran back then that turned into a hitch and go vs LSU in the title game that went for a long td because the db fell hook line and sinker.

I think it's important to remember that most run plays in football don't work. Even Herschel Walker would've averaged less than 4 yards per carry if you take away the big runs.

I think Gunner needs to continue to develop his chemistry with the receivers and tomorrow would be a good opportunity. Based on where he was looking the most and who he was staring down the most against Marshall, Humphreys, Branch and Cash Jones seem to be his guys right now. We need more, however.

I want to see all high risk passes deep down field into coverage.

LOL. So, take away the long runs that worked to prove that most run plays don't work?

Sacks. I want to see sacks. We had zero against an FCS team last weekend. That’s not going to cut it in this league.

What's the median yardage gain on a run play in football? I have no idea, but it couldn't be more than 4 yards.

3x4=12. If you are getting four yards per clip, you'll never be stopped.

We averaged roughly 30 attempts for 124 yards per game last year. Which averages around 4 ypc. And we were basically dead last in the SEC in rushing. I feel like that’s a good average per carry but I don’t recall anyone breaking any long 25+ runs . Could be wrong but I feel like that’s what hurt us statistically in the run game.

I think we will see a lot of what we saw last week. Heavy rotation, vanilla schemes, lots of playing time for back ups, freshmen, etc.

In early season games, Kirby's gameplan is what he wants to see, not what the fans want to see, especially if we're ahead by a safe margin. In 2022, we had zero sacks week 1 against Oregon, one sack against Samford in week 2, and zero against South Carolina in week three. Down the home stretch we had 3 vs Florida, 6 vs Tennessee, 4 vs LSU, 4 vs Ohio St. and 5 vs TCU.

In 2023, we had one sack against UT Martin in the opener, zero against Ball St in week two, one against UAB in week four. In SEC play we averaged almost 3 sacks per game.

In other words, stats from last Saturday (or today) are not necessarily a good indicator of the team's capabilities.

Why does everyone want to see sacks and deep balls, yet complain when the ball gets put at risk and a running QB gashing us?

Our defensive scheme will be rush 4 and collapse pocket. Make QB throw over a collapsing pocket with no easy running lanes to escape to. It is Kirby 101. We could rush 5 and 6 and run stunts, but why?

That’s some really keen insight I was oblivious to…thanks. Knowing this, it’s clearly intentional and is probably to get the DBs and LBs operating perfectly as a coverage unit before borrowing to push a blitz.

Still probably should’ve had a sack just rushing 4 against an FCS squad, but I get it.

Is this a serious question? Bringing extra pass rushers is a critical ability when playing against top QBs, especially in college ball. Hurries, pressures, and sacks can essentially eliminate the deep threat or cause turnovers.

I would love to see we have the capability to get home with this new season underway. Other dude explained it’s a Kirby thing without being a condescending know-it-all. You should take notes, Coach.
